There are plenty, plenty of forums where back-and-forth on the real-world United States can be discussed, in intricate detail, with more or less ideological underpinning, and so on and so forth.

Any chance we can keep this one focused on MWiF?

Please let us keep the pro- and anti-US over-generalizations to a minimum. I enjoy having currency parity, but within the confines of this forum I don't really care what it says about the economic prospects of the US, Canada, or anywhere else. All that matters is that it's a lot less expense to buy a computer game priced in $US.

I didn't start it. I was only responding to what coreymas wrote. I too come to this forum to discuss MWiF but when someone decides to take a cheap shot at my country I feel compelled to respond. Maybe people should think twice before they do that. If he would be so kind as to remove the offending remark from his post I will be happy to delete mine.

Now, back to the original subject of this post, the projected cost. I would expect this game to be rather pricey. Frankly, the price indicated above of $80 download is an absolute STEAL IMO. If this thing has a functional and challenging AI it will be the greatest strategy game ever developed for a PC. Its a good price no matter what the conversion rate. [;)]

Speaking of the AI, anyone who has not contributed to the AI threads who thinks they have anything to contribute, please do. That's how the AI is going to actually be any good.

There's a "sticky" thread at the top of the forum that has links to all the AI threads (if memory serves) at http://www.matrixgames.com/forums/tm.asp?m=1555915. Some of the countries have been extensively discussed. Others, not so much.

If you buy the boardgame version of WiF, with all the expansion modules (Convoy's in Flames, etc.), you'll spend a tad more than $80.00.

...And need a huge table space for many weeks (months for some) away from curious kids, pets, or any other "natural" disaster that may occur [:)]
That alone makes this game a Godsend for those who can now use the dining room table for things like dining again [:)]...

And i did not start anything either.

I did not go into details about the economic situation. I just made a quick comment about teasing my Father in law.

So place your blame elsewhere please.

And to get back on topic. I would proably pay 45-55$ for this game.

I personnally think that pricing it higher than that would price it out of the "hey i am curious about this" purchaser.

If I offended anyone, I apologize.  I was trying to be funny.   Thus, the smiley.

But, on to other things.

If there is a demo, that will go a long way toward satisfying the curious and hooking them into a purchase.

Not anymore. It's more like US$80. The Aussie dollar is now worth US 90 cents and is likely to appreciate more with the high likelihood of another interest rate rise within 2 weeks. The Reserve Bank is determined to keep inflation below 3% and election campaign or not they will use tight fiscal policy to do it (blunt instrument though it may be).

Higher relative interest rates, overseas investment in the burgeoning Australian economy (16 years of strong uninterrupted growth, low unemployment and an unparalleled resources boom) and concerns about US Banks' exposure to the sub-prime lending debacle are fuelling this rise in the Aussie dollar on international money markets. Parity with the US dollar may not be far away. Our exporters hope not.

...just in case anyone was interested in economics. [:'(]

Cheers, Neilster

You might like Alan Greenspan's book "The Age of Turbulence" - maxcroeconomics without equations! I have 4 pages left and expect to finish it today.

uh, Steve... I don't recall the Test Team approving any recreational activities for you before sometime next January [:-]

Unless you're looking for inspiration on how to modify the MWiF oil rules to allow for BP cost fluctuations according to supply and demand [;)]

Reading is my activity during breakfast and lunch. Finished Greenspan's book - he has an interesting world perspective.

The game is easily worth more than $80 as it contains more than the WiFdeluxe. So perhaps we should pay closer to the going rate for WiFDeluxe, after all we want it to be profitable. That way we can shackle Steve in irons and chains to make addons that could extend the game into the modern era, add DoDIII and a kitchen sink too.

Yeah, we're really struggling. [8|]

4% unemployment.

How many of that 96% are long term employment and how many are on a "single project by single project" basis?
More homeowners than any time in history.

Are all paid for (the houses) or under risky mortage contracts?
The average home has 4 bedrooms and 2 or more new cars. 4 TV's with 200 channels and 3 computers with 6 mBit internet. Throw in an XBox 360 or PS3 in case we get bored. A cell phone for every kid. We all have central air and heating. We have the most powerful military and largest economy in the world.

Again, are all these things already paid for, or they are bought by contracting long term debts?
And when Canadians get tired of waiting in line for an operation that would save their life from 'free' (paid by taxes instead of premiums) medical care they come down here to freeload off of our system.

Dunno for canada, but the average time you have to wait for an operation over here (Italy) ranges from one to two weeks *if the aliment is not life threatening*. If it is, the waiting time ranges from one to three days. If the threat is immediate, you get assistance at once (should this not happen usually a scandal arises and the government sends an inquiry commission). No questions asked, no money to pay at all - not even for an ambulance.
And we all make enough money that the cost of a new video game is pretty much meaningless. [:D]

How do we get by?

Including the subprime crisis who showed how just now there is a mountain of unpayable debts made by Americans, you mean?

This discussion has nothing to do with MWIF.
