I'm having the same error.  I bought the original CD.  I see a 2.18 for download, how to I get to version 2.0 before I get to 2.18?

As you've discoverd, 2.1.8 can't be installed over any 1.n copy of the game. You can download version 2.0 via the members section. 2.1.8 goes over the top of that.
