Well the 3d party option just seemed to solve the problem without having to use a complicated house rule.

I'm curious-- and the manual explains very little on this topic-- what exactly is this third-party option? How does it work and how is it different from the regular option?

Thanks,

Alan

It means you can use any option you like to complete the battles.  You can calculate using F2F from the board game, you can use minatures, you can use an outside computer program, you can beat each other up till you agree on losses, whatever you like.  You would then remove the losses from the game.

Unfortunately, after further discussion we weren’t able to come up with a house rule that everyone could agree on. Our thoughts now are to try a restart with 3rd party combat system enabled to see if that will let us fight out the naval battle offline. If that doesn’t work I think we’ll be waiting to the 1st patch.

We’ll start posting again once we find a way to get through this.

OK, it came around to Britian's naval and this work around doesn't work either. You still can't initiate a naval battle against a combined fleet of enemy major powers. In the interest of keeping things moving Nelson falls back into a defensive crouch South of Portsmouth.

Thanks to Murat[&o] for pointing out that there is another bug that only allows Heavy Ships to block the channel crossing. A small fleet of HS is sent to reinforce the channel. Take note for other English players. That one could ruin your defense as well.

Prussians are watching both directions North and South. We were planing invasions to the west until we foud out we have NO SHIPS, which means NO NAVY. NO, yachts do not count as transports.

Unable to confirm this bug - working fine on this end. Are you sure the light was in the channel?

I'll have to defer to Murat on this one. He sent me an email about it, so I slipped some HS into the channel before I had Frenchmen looting London. Sorry if your time was wasted on a bogus report. Perhaps evil French information warfare.

While your at it. You could slip some HS into the Prussian Navy.

The light fleet bug was posted in another thread. I did not try the Channel I just did not want to go across until Boer had a chance to block me.

That is what I thought and that's why I put it in here for other British players that may not have seen that post like myself. Thanks again Murat.

Oh okay, the light fleet in that case was actually in port and not in the channel. It is a very crowded area of the map so the confusion is understandable.

Thanks guys.
