Pennsylvania also has yearly inspections, both safety (lights, breaks, tire tread, etc) and emissions.

Yup! ;) Everything is still factory except the battery ole Sargie. ;) Maybe I can get 200k miles and write to Chevrolet and they will give me something or put me in a commercial. ;)

That’s outstanding !

You have a 96 Monte Carlo with 100 K on the tires and brakes

Your ether a liar or a reckless edit.

PS: note the "will give me something" [8|]

Edit: I censored my reply, I would hate for the whiners to run to the mods stating Sarge making fun and pointing out the obvious again .[:-]

Not lying Sarge. I don't slam on the breaks. I drive the speed limits, and I don't take turns like a bat out of hell. This isn't the first car I've gotten that kind of mileage out of the tires and brakes either. My 71 Impala I did the same only changing the tires and brakes once in its 25 year lifetime. Batterys seem to be the thing I have to change more often, but, even that I got 8 years out of the factory battery before having to change it. ;) Probably weather conditions have a lot to do with wear and tear on tires and brakes. It's pretty comfortable down here most of the time and only when we have those harsh hot humid summers is it really bad. I wish I had a camara to show you the tread still on all four of these tires. The back tires almost look brand new no kidding quite a lot of tread left on them. The fronts though are nowhere close to not passing inspection either. I can still put a penny in the tread slots and ole lincolns head still barely goes inside. ;) Besides since we have to have our cars inspected I'd never get past them if anything wasn't up to inspection standards.

I'm just tellin ya Chevy cars are tops in lastability (at least for me). This will probably really shock you as well. I never changed the Transmission fluid in either car as well. ;) Ohhhh almost forgot the 96 Monte Carlo, I've never had a tuneup for it either. lol I'm just a believer that things are made to sell and all this crap about you need to tuneup your car once a year and change the oil every 3000 miles and rotate your tires and change your brakes after so many miles is a load of crock. Just to keep the tire, mechanics etc in business. I believe in waiting until needed to upgrade instead of following what the pied piper says.

If anyone is ever seriously in the market for military vehicles a nice site is:

http://www.coldwarremarketing.com/

They sold their General Motors M-36 (T-71) Fischer Tank Destroyers though but they list new stuff all the time. The best part is they are honest enough to put their asking prices on the website.

As I understand it, even tanks are street legal in the US as long as they are only driven occasionally (So not for your daily commute!). Of course I still probably wouldn't recommend driving it without notifying your local city first..

Weight regulations /ground pressure would prohibit you from driving a track vehicles on public roads,

example , you can buy a old fire truck at county auctions but you can not drive it on the road except during special events with town/village permission .

Fire trucks don’t have to adhere to the regulation , till in private use/ownership . Many military vehicles
Would not be able to acquire a license due to regulations.[;)]

The article did'nt say how much they were going to sell them for. Just that they cost $600,000 new.
I love to drive one here in the mountains to see what it can do on a steep downhill.

You can forget that. You ever notice how many auto commercials show their vehicles being ridiculously manhandled and also driven in ways that very strongly suggest they are breaking the law in so doing (at least if you did the same thing on a real road)? That's one of the things that influences as many people as drive like maniacs, as there are, to drive that way. That's a totally irresponsible way to advertise. Sudden'y it's cool [8|] and powerful to drive recklessly. Your driviing habits are the last thing they will ever put across on their commercials.

Well, I got my insurance settlement check today, and gotta find me a decent commuting car. Damn, I didn't realize how much I was attached to my trusty old 98 Cav, but it will soon be scrap metal.

Thankfully, the family has a new Saturn Vue, BUT, that's the wife's, and I gotta have my own way to work.

So, how about one of these:

Image

NOT. [:D]

Sure, it may be good on gas....but... it would suck trying to drive up the long hills down by Corridor G, or even up to Yeager Airport. Would be easy to park down in Town Center or over by the gorgeous shiny-domed capital building [:)] Can you imagine getting that little thing up to Hawk's Nest? I bet driving to Beckley would be a hoot, crawling to the top of one mountain, coasting down, crawling up--take you a good bit of time [:D]

That car is a death machine. If somebody ever hits that thing over 40mph from the rear or front you're talking a minimum of major injuries. I guess the lesson would be to don't ever drive it on a highway, which of course will cut into the mileage somewhat.

Postscript: I bought a 2004 Cavalier LS today. Royal Blue, w/sunroof, 81K miles. Excellent condition. New rotors recently installed. Dealer provided CarFax info. Agreed Base Price: $6478.

Overall, a definite improvement over my deceased warhorse. KG is happy, and having a $4000 downpayment helped. So, I'm paying approx $2800 over 2 years ($132/mo).

Sounds like a good deal KG, hope it works out for you!

I may have to look into a Leopard from Australia tho.
I know it's not street legal, but who will argue with you?
It's just the thing I would love to have for those bay area traffic jams![8D]
