Well from the little I've seen of the " adult " shows you mention it just proves his point. I believe he means the whole adult package ie angst, fear, regret etc. not just nakedness. I don't know which cable channel it's on but to have a pseudo comedy about a serial killer is in my view just disgusting. I'm not a prude and read all I can get about serial killers but to make a comedic show about one is really bad.

Back to the Witcher

I think that the adult parts of making choices and having repercussions from them was great. The horndog parts were not really annoying it's just that they had no real part of the story except for the love triangle with the witcher,Triss, and Shani. Even there you had no real consequences when you made your choice. The other more mature theme running through it was the best I've seen in a computer game. Geralt of rivia was the most striking persona I've yet incountered in a game. it says a lot to me that I now want to read all the books in the series.

That said as far as a game it paled in comparision to Gothic 3 and Oblivion even Two Worlds was a better game. I didn't like a lot of the controls, a lot of the sub plots were idiotic and the interaction with some of the characters was bad beyond belief. It's really too bad that a great series of books and great game plots were mangled by this up and coming company. If only whoever did Oblivion had got their hands on this. It was much like a bad pc port of an Xbox game. Which as far as I know it isn't available for consoles.

This isn't really a spoiler but in my eyes the ending stank. I just kept looking at the screen saying, what the hell.

Everyone has their own opinions and there was a lot to like in the game.

Well my point was that just having nudity/violence doesn't make something adult. It's about
having complex story elements (like those you mentioned). A bit like those HBO shows I talked about.

I think we both agree that censorship is bad and that is the key. A story/play/game/cartoon should never
have to compromise with the content because some kind of "moral majority/minority" dislikes it. There is always an off
button one can switch if the creation doesn't suit ones tastes.

I haven't played this game but from some reviews I got the idea that much of the "adult" content more reminded
of typical teenage bedroom fantasies than actual adult themes. Which probably suits the target audience well.

Maybe I am biased by the fact that we don't have any nudity or swear filters in TV/Movies.
I just don't see the big fuss about naked women(or men) on screen.

I ordered the UK version. I not down with censorship. Anyways I been wanting to play a good story driven RPG, sounds like this is a good one from the reviews.

Oblivion had a plot and interesting characters?Oblivion was a terrible RPG in my view it bored me to death,it was more like a single player MMO with massive amounts of loot being its only pull.Mass Effect and the Witcher are best RPG's since Balders gate2 in my view, they have a good story, interesting charactors, great setting and never get boring.

Each to his own.

This is rubbish. The adult themes are in the setting and story that deals with racism, corruption of power and the shades of grey with all the charactors. The mini game of shagging women to get cards is irelavent to the game.

OOH does it come with a Groin attachment like Listers in Red Dwarf???? [:D]

I'll get my coat [:D]

I will probably buy the Witcher sometime in 2008, as I am totally skint atm. [:(]

Cheers

And you call that mature? Sounds like a real contender for DH Lawrence litterature ;).
I found the main Oblivion story quite compelling. Especially liked the "dream world" sequence towards the end.

Different strokes for different folks I guess.

If you read my post I said "That said as far as a game it paled in comparision to Gothic 3 and Oblivion even Two Worlds was a better game". The stories were your typical rpg hack and slash. Where the Witcher excelled was it's story. I didn't like most of it's game aspects ie. controls, combat etc.. I also don't like any of the D&D like games, baldurs Gate etc.. I like first and third person perspective. As you said to each his own.

I'm about 12 hours into the game and while it is not completely to my liking, I have to say that it is the best rpg I have played in about seven years. My main gripe is the controls and camera, but they are much better than NWN2. I look forward to the expansion/sequel. The only rpg that I think will have a chance of being better in the coming year is Drakensang.
