junta .. would just love it..
B17 queen of the skies { with squadrons as it would play 20 times faster without all that die rolling }
Defence of rourkes Drift
Vietnam
The Civil War
Boot Hill
Gladiator
And of course ASL and luckily enough WIF / Patton in Flames
couldnt agree more, especially KINGMAKER,i stillhave my near mint copy with the expansion kit in my Loft!!!

Btw. Was there ever a good boardgame on the English/Irish Civil War? I wonder
why there are so few games covering this major event.
Would like to see something strategic on PC nevertheless.

AH - Starship Troopers
Great choice.
The original, though, lacked a feel for the "there's bazillions of them and only a few of us" atmosphere from the book.
And where did that pseudo-Arachnid "looks suspiciously like something out of a 'War of the Worlds' movie Martian ray gun unit" come from?
I'd also like to see a lot of the old VG titles worked up as computer games (AH's attempt at 5th Fleet was lame), although I suspect that Matrix would be pretty skeptical after EiA and WiF.
"Ambush" and "Battle Hymn" with a full-feature scenario generator (you enter conditions and the editor creates the scenario, kind of like how Colonization creates a "New World" to play in), anyone?

- Republic of Rome with a proper IGOUGO system and different AI approaches to the match and challenging
- Friedrich (best strategy game of 2006) with AI
By now i will say those games, and it is normal that i intend with a really challenging AI, the graphics might be the same of the boardgame, no problems on that ^^

I'd like to see the GBACW series SPI/TSR boardgames as a computer game. Also WS&IM, Submarine, and Starship Troopers (original), all in IGO-YUGO rather than real time format.

For me the number one choice would be Avalon Hill's Great Campaigns of the American Civil War series (Stonewall Jackson's Way, Road to Richmond, etc).
After that would be the Victory Game's Fleet series (6th Fleet, 5th Fleet, etc.).
BTW, Mdiehl, WSIM and Submarine would be best done in a WEGO format instead of IGO, YUGO. After all, that's how they were done in board game mode - why mess with a winning system?

True. My bad for being imprecise. I started by listing the GBACW series (which is IGO/YUGO) and thinking about the contrast between it and the real-time ACW games that don't hold my interest. But yeah, Submarine and WS&M are WEGO (which makes them that much easier to implement as a computer game).

Spot on. I love 'em.
The handling of strategic recon is a work of genius, although the combat (particularly air-to-surface attack) could use some elaboration and sophistication.
What better place than in the computer milieu to make those improvements?

Avalon Hill’s Rise and Decline of the Third Reich

The game would need a screen as large as a table and positioned on a wall. Then you could see the whole map without scrolling and the hexes would be the size of my thumbnail.

Pax Britannica gets my vote. But instead of PBEM make it solo and multiplayer over the internet.

Twilight Imperium - my favorite boardgame that I never have enough people to play. It may be a space game, but it has voting, special powers, colonization, ground and space combat, and THE BARONY OF LETNEV! ALL BOW BEFORE THE BARON! ...er... sorry about that...
I wouldn't mind seeing a computer gamer version of Arkham Horror, although it is not a wargame. In fact, I think it would make a pretty awesome PC conversion, as the players play against the board rather than themselves and the game is set up by getting event card then going to a location. It would work pretty well, I would think.
Agricola would be fun, but you would have to have actual human players, rather than AI. Might be easier as some sort of X-Box live thing that put players in automatically with no single player option.
I'm not a big fan of boardgames with radio manual type rules. I am a big fan of Diplomacy, so a GOOD PC conversion for this would be welcome... [;)]

Isn't the one made by Microprose any good? I have it but never played it.

Any Clash of Arms game that is tactical and Napoleonic, as well as any Battles in the Age of Reason game.

The original, though, lacked a feel for the "there's bazillions of them and only a few of us" atmosphere from the book.
The newer boardgame, based on the movie, is actually a quite good beer & pretzels kind of wargame. I think it would work very well on a PC without much modifications.

Yes! That was my first thought when I saw this thread. (For something quite similar to Ambush!, mixed with a first person shooter, I can recommend the Hidden & Dangerous games. Especially playing the first game coop 2 was very fun.)
Several other old solitaire games would probably work very well as computer games as well, like the scifi games from SPI Ares magazine. You wouldn't have any problems with bad ai players, since the enemy reactions are all trivial/random and built into the way the game works, instead of trying to present the player with a virtual intelligent opponent playing by the same rules the player do.

No BS, the Microprose one is pretty terrible, not quite as terrible as the Paradox one, but terrible none-the-less (and hard to even find a copy of).
