Sadly, so many of the more interesting conflicts in the ancient world aren't well enough known to grab much attention. Everyone has at least heard of the Persian Wars, Peloponnesian War, Punic Wars, Gallic War, campaigns of Philip and Alexander. But those nifty Greek wars between PelWar and Philip, the ones mainly in Xenophon and Plutarch, aren't really known at all. Same goes for Egypt's expansion during the New Kingdom, Persia's wars with Egypt and other peoples, Rome's conquest of the East, etc. Some of those would make for great games, but outside of Persian Wars, PelWar, Alexander, and Punic Wars I don't think there'd be any interest at all in a strategic game. It's a pity, because New Kingdom Egypt would be perfect for a strategic game, and same goes for certain periods/places in the Ancient Near East.

We need to start making ancient history a mandatory part of the high school and college curriculum!

I'd go for the wars and battles of the "Scorpion King" and those nifty dogs from hell in the movie Mummy II.

Just so you know Cuthbo matrix and Most of the forum users take a very dim view of abandonware. I'm not going to go down that road again, but I suggest you edit your post and remove the link.

I thought there was just bad vibes about The Underdogs website. Don't think they really care if people visit abondonware sites. I've linked sites here where out of print titles can be downloaded. Nobody ever complained.[&:]

The few threads that I've seen were pretty much that there is no such thing as abandonware. That even if it's not being sold by whoever owns the copyright you are cheating people who could be selling the game on Ebay. I'm not stating my views just ones that have been put forth on the forum. I'm quite surprised that you were able to post links this time let alone more earlier. The gist that I remember from those threads was someone who uses abandonware is just as much a pirate as someone who downloads a recent game.

If you read the licensing agreement for most software (games included), then selling 'your' copy on e-bay is a violation of the license agreement anyway, making it just as bad for the developer/publisher as any abandonware site. (Bogus if you ask me, but that's the way the licence agreements read nonetheless).

TW and some of the mods are still the best!! And fun!! They made it on TV did'nt they?[;)]

Civilization II Ancient Scenarios

Due to the lack of ancient strategy games, whenever I am in the mood to play one I always load up Civ II and play one of the many ancient scenarios that have been created, and are STILL being made.
