The passage of a bullet through a body at greater than 2000 fps causes a widened wound channel.  This will also create an even larger temporary channel and tissue disruption area.  This area of disruption grows larger as the speed of the bullet increases.  This effect is not seen in pistol round wounds where velocities are not great enough to produce the effect {and more is done on bullet design to produce the desired effects}.

Back to the original poster.....Shame on you!.  I spent have an hour cleaning linguini and clam sauce off my monitor.....

In other words, there's not enough powder behind a pistol round to do this kind of damage. Further, Taylor said his .22 ammo was old, which may account for the Superman effect after his well-aimed, single shot "bounced right off" the intruder's forehead.

"After the trial Taylor said the ammunition was indeed old ..."

Wish I had the chance to choose from more guns when meeting an intruder.

OTOH homeless people around here are quiet and peaceful (except among themselves). In 99% percent of the cases they are attacked and not they attack. The 1% is infighting. Really.

There is a certain percentage of the population that have skulls 2x as thick as normal, and the phenomenon of .22 bouncing off their skulls is well known in the Medical Examiner literature (they come to autopsy with multiple gunshot wounds - but the head wounds typically aren't penetrating.)

I wonder if having 2x skull thickness mean less room for brains and a higher probability of being shot in said thick skull because of less brains.

No - the size of brain is not affected.
