I agree with Scott_WAR, I would probably not pay for a graphics enhancement or more stadiums. However, I would be fine paying for additional features, like GM-type things (especially trades), Hall of Fame and All-Pro selections, etc.

Also, Marauders mentioned "months" for the 3.0 release...I'm thinking more like next spring. Would this be a bit more accurate for the overall ballpark plan? We are looking more like a year from now or so, right?

I think "months" is exceedingly conservative. 3.0 is a year away at the minimum. Or rather, I should say, it's a year away from the time I start working on it.

I stated, Improved graphics are scheduled for 3.0, which is many months off.

By many months I meant it could take nine months to even start alpha testing to eighteen months to realease. I didn't state a few months. I used many months instead of years, because I did not want to say that it would take years.

I'd pay for GM type things, some actual GOOD enhancement to the output - right now they're attrocious.  I actually write Access tables to put them in some sort of reasonable order.  Nothing really useable outputs in my opinion - it's all half done and requires another deck of work out of the league owner to post online.

My #1 thing is still some Arena Football type things, but law is in the way of that - DOH! You'd think people would catch on that the best way to expand your game is to make it accessible for other parties to play the game and for others to do things connected to it.  Kinda' how most sports grow, the Arena League - nope, we own it so you can't play it.

Baaaaaaaaah nonsense.

Your right about the AFL thing. It would be so cool if Max had Rebound Nets (I hope the AFL dosen't sue me for wishing that) They should be more like the NBA, MLB, and NFL and use commen sense.

The creator of the Arena Football League tried to patent a lot more than just the rebound nets.

Because so much of arena football was considered a game and unpatentable, the applications were refused.

I heard he tried to patent indoor football, don't if it's true. The patent expires this year doesn't it?

Migration.
Version 2.2 is an update to the 2.0 series of games. It will not be something you can install over the top of a version 1.0 series build and have it work. You must have version 2.0 (or 2.1) as your starting point.

After that, the update to version 2.2 is simply installing the update. When you run the game, the version should be 2.2.60 and you should see the new interface elements.

LEAGUES MUST BE RESET TO SEASON 1. Version 2.2 has a completely different statistical schema in the databases so any version of the game prior to 2.2 is no longer compatible. Your databases will be updated accordingly, but the data can not be. So you must reset your league.

To help with the migration process, version 2.2 has two different types of league reset. The default reset mode will wipe out all stats and game play results and all seasons and revert the game back to a state where you're ready to play season 1. All rosters and depth charts remain intact. This was done so those creating complex leagues with many players do not loose all their work.

The other reset mode is the traditional one you're used to. This wipes the databases completely clean of everything, including players and rosters. With this mode, only the league structure and team data remains and you start at season 0.

Just for those who care:

I am about 90% done with a utility that will upgrade old 2.18 databases to the 2.2 databases with far less data loss that what David is offering. I am doing this so people who have played for 6 or 7 seasons and don't want to lose the history of their franchise can continue playing with the new version. Instead of having to start over, you can start from wherever you left off (ideally).

Please be aware that David could have done this too. The fact that he chose not to should be evidence of the fact that there are some drawbacks to doing what I am offering (mainly from the statistical standpoint). Some statistcal information will be missing from years you played on 2.18 because there are new statistics that are recorded in 2.2 that weren't available in 2.18. For those stats, a zero will be inserted as if that was the actual stat. This is obviously only a minor problem, but it may result in some funky statistics possibly. There will be other quirky things like that also. The league should be completely playable, however.

I believe there would have been too many concerns over whether or not some things were "bugs" or "errors" had David opted to allow this type of migration. So, instead of him having to take any heat for problems arising from this type of upgrade, I will instead [;)].

Hopefully, this sounds good.

Would this be similar to how a great player like Deacon Jones of the Rams isn't on the list of greatest sackers because this wasn't an official stat in the NFL until late in his career?

Actually, yes. That is an EXCELLENT analogy.

Hi everyone,

Just a quick note to say we're finishing up production on the v2.2 update. As we are closed tomorrow, we're looking at a release date early next week to make this officially available to you all.
