Mad Russian,

I think perhaps you misunderstood my poor attempt at explanation. You can make smaller maps than 1kmx1km which have clearly defined geometry where the player can and can't go just like the maps now. Look at the maps now. Notice the wall effect at the edge of the map. The player has feedback on where the edge is. You could easily do this with a smaller map as well (have a defined edge or if you wanted a high mountain or water or whatever barrier you wanted to have). The player would see very clearly where he/she can and can't go. The problem is that the computer needs an AI/LOS map to do this same. This is a 1000x1000 bitmap called map.bmp. This is what I was talking about above.

Does this help. I think what you want to do can be done without too much problems. Going smaller is easy. Going Bigger is harder.

Edit: See my post above. The player would see the map "." as land which can be navigated. To him the "x" would not have any geometry and so not be rendered. So the player would be playing on the smaller map (and on a non symmetrical map to boot). The computer sees the world in a 1k x 1k block and needs that extra info to let it know that the player can't play there, that is all.

That's all a ways down the road. At the moment I can't get the map in the editor to even zoom in and out so I can see where to put my objective flags and both sides units.....off to read the manual AGAIN.....lol....

Good Hunting.

I'd ask you how hard it is to add swamp areas to the map to use as my boundaries, since this fight takes place place in a very marshy area, but your answer is always the same....it's easy!

When in fact, the rest of us mortals know it's not....[&o]

My time is coming with this editor.

Either that or the game goes on hold until there is one.

The scenario editor was fairly easy my first time through. Except for that fact that all the equipment in the editor isn't supported by the game just yet. At least, seemingly, without the correct vehicle depictions.

Good Hunting.

Yeah, I appreciate that there is a learning curve with this stuff. Rest assured that what you want to do is not difficult if you know what you are doing and have the tools. If all you wanted to do was to add a marsh to an already existing map all you need is a paint editor and 30 minutes of time provided of course you have scaled the learning curve which may appear steep at this point!

Keep following my tuts, I will get around to explaining everything you need to know, even if it takes a while. I am pleased that there are a few guys who have already pretty much worked it all out already and are charging ahead with hardly any help at all.

Do you have a mouse with a wheel? Is it a smooth scrolling wheel or one of the click scroll ones? I though I made map zooming as easy as I could. Place the mouse cursor over the terrain you want to scroll down onto and then roll the wheel.

Yes not all equipment is modeled ATM. New models are coming (see Mobius's KV2 in the mods section). The data for the non modeled units should be pretty good and consistent with the stuff which has 3D models. Having said that it wasn't scrutinized in the same detail that the modeled stuff was, so it is worthwhile checking. You are free to make changes and supply a JSGME mod if you like [;)]

True, you don't realize every nook and crany of a vehicle until its broken down so that it can be modeled. That is why the modeled vehicles have a bit more detail variation then the unmodeled.

Yes, I have a mouse with a wheel. I roll and roll the wheel and nothing happens. I'm doing something else wrong. I put the first Soviet unit on the map and for some reason in zoomed in. Now I can't unzoom it.

How do I "select" the map so the editor knows I'm trying to do things over there? Otherwise I may be in "Buy Russian Unit" mode and the wheel has nothing to do with that part of the editor....or maybe not.....[X(]

I'll keep working with it. The CM editor wasn't all that easy to learn to use CORRECTLY either.[:-]

I finally managed to get the units where I want them by clicking on them. The overall map view I can move by holding down the mouse button. HOWEVER, it still will only show me a small zoomed in portion of the map. Not the large overview area that it starts with when you first open the editor.

That was a joke right???[&:]

I make scenarios and leave the modding to others...you know...like those that know what they're doing! [&o]

Which I can't and have no desire to even go there....[:-]

That's seriously bizarre - does your mouse wheel actually work in both directions? I just hold it over the map area and can zoom in and out, though there's sometimes a brief (1-2 second) delay while the map resizes.

Just hold the mouse pointer over the map (instead of the interface) and it should work. If worse comes to worse, you can always save the scenario, exit the editor and restart it, load the scenario up and you should be back in the zoomed out view.

If you're mouse focus is on some item in the edit window - the map zoon won't work. I should add that to my tips. What I mean is if you have a unit selected in the OOB then go and try to zoom the window, the whell doesnt work. What I do is click the breifing button on and off (the eye glasses next to the scenario name field), which leaves the unit selected and then I can zoom easily.

Yes, that tip works. The scroll wheel is pretty slow but it does work if you don't have anything else selected.

? I am really confused.

Just point your mouse where you want to zoom in/out on and roll your mouse wheel. It shouldn't matter if you have anything selected or not. So it is true if you are over the control pane you can't zoom, the mouse needs to be pointing at something on the map to know what to zoom in/out on (it centers the view on that point).

MR,

Are you using IE6 or IE7?

I have IE6 and the patch.

The mouse can be pointing at whatever you want...over the editor or over the map and it makes no difference. If you do as Rick suggests and make sure you have everything unselected first it works like you all think it should.
