As to percentage chance and precise conditions for depletion of a conquered food resource well I will leave that to Frank to answer.
But food controlled hexes in a country you have conquered will not be depleted whether it be an in AH incorporated part of Serbia or by Germany conquered Belgium. So if possible don't take the food resource unless absolutely necessary like the one in Serbia. This is provided of course that you have a realistic chance of conquering that country [:D]
And if you don't have a chance to conquer that country then grab it because you can [;)]
Raw material hexes will not be depleted but industry may be permanently destroyed upon enemy occupation (its usually destroyed).
Oh and don't loose your capital. Your production will be permanently crippled.

Changing control of a food hex, and especially battles in a food hex, have a chance of destroying the production of food for the duration of the game. On the other hand, if you conquer a country without destroying its food producing areas then you get that production.

Hi all,
I bought GOA half a year ago and am still quite addicted. So far I've played only against the AI, but did not have an easy time beating it as the CP. I'm following this forum for quite some time now, gaining lots of useful information for my gameplay. And I did experience how much unsufficient food will cripple the Central Powers. Therefore:
ORIGINAL: Lascar
As the CP I controlled but deliberately avoided occupying the Romanian food hexes. Romania never surrendered but all three food hexes remained and contributed to the CP food pool till the end.
So how do you control a hex without occupying it? AFAIK control of a hex will not change without physically occupying it.

OK, this could be considered "scorched earth" defense. What is the percentage? If you surround a hex and let an enemy unit die due to no supply (time consuming) can you march in and take it, after the wait (and will they die faster in 3.0?).

He means taking it and vacating it the very next impulse. Alternatively cutting off the hexes from any enemy controlled city should do the trick in patch 1.25 and higher.
The tip with resources not being depleted when not occupied by enemy units is unconfirmed though.

In 1.3 ccontrol of hexes cut off from supply will revert to your control when the enemy units have disintegrated [;)]
