I have to agree with the Martian on this one. I do port to port shipping with no escort. I have many hunterkiller groups that deal with the sub threat as it arises. In order to not make my convoy routes perdictable I set a way point and have the port set to home, in both directions. Also the use of Helens at the choke points(straits) allows me to reroute convoys around detected subs.ORIGINAL: Mynok
If you do your ASW properly, you will rarely have issues with subs doing major damage to your convoys. I escort truly valuable convoys like amphibious or troop transports much more heavily with DDs and PCs.
A proper ASW plan is the primary tool for keeping your oil/resource supply line flowing, not escorting convoys.
