Dave,
Lets just say that i have experience with WW2 Global simulations (yes it is a competitor of Matrix -- sorry) and the sheer number of units (especially down to division level) can cause significant performance issues.
Couple that with a prolific amount of events...... well you get the picture.
Comrade does the engine take advantage of Multi-Core CPU's?

coreymas,
I don't sound like i'm bragging or something but I really did my best to optimize the game quite well. Wherever possible, I pre-calculated things. Supply is also very nicely optimized. World map would be slower, yes, but I reckon it would still be playable. Right now you can play european scenario (which, by SC2 standards, is a huuuge map) even on slower PCs. I had AMD 800 Mhz when started developing this game, even now my hardware is far from high-end (Sempron 2600+, 1.86 Ghz) and I can't tell anything bad about the performance.
I did not use any explicit techniques to take advantege of multi-core CPUs. The game is multi-threaded (AI is in one thread, and rendering in the other), i'm not a hardware architecture expert, but perhaps by multithreading the game can somehow use multi-core CPUs better. Don't know that really

comrade,
I hope that i did not offend you with my question. I am very happy to see that the game is multi-threaded.
I am going to have to pick up a copy of the game......
I just so happen to have a Pentium 3 800 with 512 MB ram sitting at home.... will test it out with that machine.
Again congrats on your release..... the game looks very nice.....

There are games like Commander - Europe at War, Strategic Command 1 & 2.
It makes me wonder what this game can offer so special, that its worth the money. When I looked at screenshots and readed some forums. There seem to be nothing. Only thing I can see, is freedom to choose and play with minor countries. At the end it is not enough. Can someone tell me something I might not know?
I loved Strategic Command 1 but just couldn't get into the second one. I'm not even sure where it went wrong for me (its funny looking for starters). I've always thought of Commander - Europe at War as a better version of SC1 and now this game as the better version of SC2. That makes me want to buy both Commander and WW2:RTV but I also could be very very wrong.
It's probably a cheezy answer, but the fact that Matrix is involved in this title greatly increases my interest. Ive just never been impressed with Battlefront. It's always felt to me like anything outside of Combat Mission is a complete after-thought to them as are any 3rd Party Devs.
Though I think Matrix has been guilty of that too with a few of the odder titles.. This just doesn't feel to me like one of those games thats thrown up here just to see if it sticks and then to disappear to the depths of the forums list... completely forgotten about...and then silently dissappearing altogether 2 years from now.
It looks to have been and continue to be a serious effort on all parts and to have been made with some passion and dedication..
Now I just need to go ahead and actually purchase it!

I think, it is not so important to make a map VERY large at start. It is much more important to make content to those maps already are in the game. It looks like there are nothing else than few cities and couple forrest and then... nothing. World map is very important thing to give feeling and tactical opportunities to the game. If terrain bonuses and penalties are modeled, there should be something more, than just green plains after green plains
The big question is: Can this game/map be modded by players? Then it is possible for players to enchance maps how they want?
I'll add official screenshot over here, to explain what I mean.

I'd like to know this as well. I created the SC1 map for the second version released overseas (Germany, Australia, etc.) and I'd love to cook a good map mod up for this one. The scale looks great. Is everything map/unit-related bitmaps?

This has game great potential and the fighting rules are much closer to reality than the SC2 or Commander ones. As for HoI, it's just a piece of crap - not a wargame at all, but a strategic game with lots of fancy graphics and tedious micromanagement.
