ATR flying boats (e.g. the BV-222) can only air transport units to or from, or air supply units in, coastal hexes.
SM 82 Marsupiale 1940 (range 9) carrying a German MTN from Southern Austria wouldn’t work either. Vienna to Sofia is 10 hexes.

just noticed this discussion ... it would take the Ju-52 more than one mission to deliver reinforcements to Sofia (a bit of a march from the coast for the Commies), but it can and has been done...von Leeb usually leads my Sep/Oct 39 invasion of Yugoslavia anyway...

Except that when Germany takes Copenhagen you cant move from the Baltic to the North Sea. But a very good place to put the one CA youre loosing.

Note that if the Russians set up with their Infantry division on the Black Sea coast, threatening a go at the Bulgarian Gambit, I'd probably set up the German MTN corps in southern Austria in hopes of getting it into Sofia via an ATR mission and forget about nearly useless adventures in the North Atlantic.
The important thing to understand in this sentence is
Bulgarian Gambit.
And therefore you set up your ATRable unit in the south of Austria.

Are the Danish Minor ports of Godhab (Greenland), Sydproven (Greenland), and Thorhaven (Faeroes Islands) clear terrain hexes?

The Greenland ports are tundra and the Faeroes Islands port is clear terrain, per the old map

Found a screenshot of terrain effects chart
here.
As such, it appears so: there are no special combat factor modifiers (e.g. attacker halved or defender doubled) for attacking tundra; the assault vs. blitz table choice is as per clear, desert & forest.
