Short answer...
All mining ability will be affected by production output of these devices.
Of course. I knew that! When you guys talked about mines, I thought naval mines and never considered aerial mines. Thanks!

Well it does sound as if it will be curtailed by the new mine production system, and house rules can always still apply. So it should be a bit better.

House rules are not allowed in AE. Its in the rulebook.

Someone want to explain this new production system?

I need to semi retract part of my post concerning aerial mining.
Just want to give you players the facts.
As is stands now, naval mining is dependent on production.
Aerial mines will be added to this later, or a similar solution.
So, unfortunately for now.
The aerial mining will remain the same as in WITP.
I apologize for giving out incorrect data.
Let me be clear though.
Because of your concerns over this mission's issues, it IS going to be addressed.
It just might not make the initial release.
These kind of additions are being added to post release projects.
Keep your continuing input coming.
Legitimate and civil requests will not be ignored.[;)]

Mines are produced like aircraft. So many per month by type.

Honestly Halsey, if the mission were simply interceptable I think that would satisfy most if not all of us who have misgivings with the aerial mining mission type. So long as I can defend against it then I consider it fair game for my opponant to do, but currently I simply have no defense against it.
Thanks for keeping us updated on it.

As it stands right now, mines in AE are a non-factor. The replacement rates are so low that in order to re-load 1 ML it takes months. Air dropped mines are in worse shape (which frankly they should be imho as they werent really a factor until the last 3 months of the war).
Lots of on-going discussion on this. Changes are likely.
As for the missions being incerceptable, no they arent and this isnt likely to change. Maybe in a patch if there is enough crying on the boards about it. But most likely air-dropped mines will continue to be a non-factor until very late in the war (when it isnt likely to matter anyway).

I was going to ask if the mine replacement rates were by type or all mine types from the same pool. But if it will take months to reload a minelayer then the question is moot because mines will not longer be useful.

They are by type. But I believe changeable in the database. Meaning someone can make a mod that has reasonable replacement rates.

If your going make mines part of production, then give the player control over how many to build, otherwise your forcing the Japanese player to waste production & resources on something the player may or may not use! Not everyone uses mines and some use them more than others.

I'm one of those that likes to use mines offensively by mining my opponants ports. Keep em tied up sweeping their own supply bases and that's that many fewer ships I have harrassing me.

The next thing to do, I guess, is to research how many mines were produced.
If I ever did as much homework for school as I have done for this game I would've had a 4.0 GPA, a college degree and be a doctor or a CEO making a lot more money than I do......
But I like the idea of making $26/hr and spending half my time at work playing on my laptop! I'm glad I didn't do any homework in school!

Well part of the problem here is a lot more mines were made than were used. Mk 10 sub launched mines for example. 1200 were available on Dec 7 1941 and God knows how many more were made, but the US used less than 100 of them.
Air launched Mk`13s had over 39,000 and only 12,000 were used. So - do you allow players to use what was available or what was actually used. This is what the discussion is about. There are pros and cons both ways. And frankly both sides have valid points. Ultimately a compromise will be reached that neither side will be happy with most likely [;)]

Unless there is sensible reason that prevented its use it should be considered. If it was only a tactical/strategic decision then i think not.

I agree with Dili. If the supply was there and able to be used, then it should be available for use. If they were not used due to command decision....well, isn't the command decision in the hands of the players?
Then again, you guys have spent more time debating it than I have I don't want to beat a deceased equine and come off looking like a fine example of equine posterior. And if the number of mines produced is changeable in the editor, then everybody should be happy anyway.
