I like this thought from one of their blurbs about the game...
[font="verdana, arial, helvetica, sans-serif"]"...a session of War Plan Pacific can be completed in an average time of two to three hours! Less if you really suck at naval strategy!"

If I applied myself, I bet I could lose faster than that! *grin*

Eddy,
While the amount of effort and time it takes to play WITP is not for everyone, I have to say that if you invest that effort and time it's a singular gaming experience. Well worth it, just plan to take a year off (or more) once you get sucked in.
Regards,
- Erik

You know I've got a lot of irons in the fire at the same time, so giving all of that up for a single game, no matter how good, isn't going to happen. But I'll happily recommend it to anyone seeking the ultimate PTO game given that everyone who has dived in pretty much agrees that it is.

looks like it could be an enjoyable beer and pretzels stand in when I don't feel like facing up to the task of a WitP turn.

Erik,
I actually think you are being kind on the "year off thing". I would say more like 3 years. After all those of us that took the time to really learn the game, played it that long before moving on to other things. I am hoping that AE will provide as much wall to wall enjoyment as WitP did and if it even comes close, I'll be one happy guy!

I would say being able to play the complete pacific war in 3 hours is the complete opposite of WITP (the first turn alone takes more time than that).

Does Matrix have a Pacific War game that is not as long as WiTP? I want to play a Pacific War game but not with the detail that WiTP has.

There's war plan ornge, but thats just the WW1 version of WitP.I think we need something that is between War plan Pacfic and WitP.Something that gives long and detailed gameplay, but doesn't so much micro management.

Then I think you'll be delightfully surprised with SC PTO.

Gary Grigsby's World at War: A World Divided covers the entire globe, including the Pacific.
Steel Panthers and John Tiller's Campaign Series both have some major Pacific campaigns in tactical scale.
Uncommon Valor is like WITP, but covers only one part of the Pacific and has less to manage as a result.

WPP demo now available. Pretty simple gameplay - quick and fun.

My initial impression about the demo was, that I'm looking into a free browser game, regarding map scale, visual appearance, simplified mechanics, lack of details, missing fow etc. This game is in every aspect quite the opposite to WitP and If I got forced to to say something positive, it would be the fact that KE Studios was fair enough to offer a free trial of WPP.

I tried the demo for this War Plan Pacific also and while I'm sure it is too simplified / abstracted for many of the people that visit this forum the game is actually pretty fun. Unfortunately the demo is only 4 turns long but I find myself wishing I could continue to play. As Lutzow mentioned it is nice to have the opportunity to try out a demo.
