Tack, take a temp reading when WAR is playing...ALT-TAB from the game and check the temp.
After exiting WAR...the GPU temp will quickly return to near idle temp.
But this heat issue might only affect certain Graphic Cards...from this thread so far: 7600GT and 8600GT.

done test during play last night, regular temp 60c, but during play is jumped to 70c,fan speed went from slow to medium. after about a hours play.

My NVIDIA GeForce 8600 GTS on the desktop is 55-58 and when running WAR 75-78

That's an increase of 20 deg...but better than my 8600GT (about 30 deg temp increase).
Have you tried a test running CC4 or CC5?  Should be close to idle temp for CC4-CC5.

Just a thought, but maybe WaR doesn't/can't use Anti-Aliasing or Anisotropic filtering, and you guys have your video cards set to "force" AA & AF?

Just checked the Nvidia control panel.

First thing to note is that all the Anti-Aliasing settings are under the 3D application section which you wouldn't think would include WAR but based on the of number of people that have had to change the anti-ailaising option(s) to application controlled there must be some impact. Maybe because of the change in directX versions from CC5 to WAR.

After installing Driver: 6.14.11.7824 I checked the default settings for the anti-aliasing options; 3 out 5 are application controlled, 1 is off and only 1 is on "Antialiasing - Gamma Correction".

Edit:
- new driver is in the low 70's for temperature but that could just be because the room is at a different temperature right now

- CC5 is 57 which is in my normal idle range

Just to make sure...cleaned my GPU fans on the weekend...playing WAR is still making my 8600GT temp shoot up about 30 deg from idle temp.
Somebody at the CCS forum reported heat problems (and PC shutting down) with a Radeon x1950.

i havent tried it yet, just formatted and reloaded my system, but did that anti scopic setting help all these people yet?
 
test tomorrow for me,all NEW if it crashes, then ill do all the latest updates for nvidia(like i had), want to make sure ofiginal CD rom drivers are good first.

Can you all check that anti-aliasing and Anisotropic Filtering are turned off for WaR

I just turned them on and had all sorts of graphics problems making it just about unplayable

That seems to help a bit...not that any of them was on before (in global settings)...but I created a setting for CCE.exe at the Nvidia CP and manually set them to application controlled (which should be off for WAR) and my 8600GT temp when playing WAR is about 80-85 (tested 2 battles at 15 mins).  Still hot, but better than 90-93 like before.

You guys might also make a specific 3D settings game profile for your WaR executable and set the "Threaded Optimization" to OFF in addition to disabling the AA & AF.

It has helped with some oddities before.  It's for the GPU better utilizing multi-core system processors.  Probably wouldn't hurt at all, making sure the global setting for that is off, if you only have a single core system.

My system is also at a very high temperature level, however it is the GPU1. I will attach a screenshot of it. The longer I play this great game, the hotter the system gets. Not good.

Another AMD X2 (dual core) paired with a NVidia GPU with heat problems.

Shrecken, are those 3 PCs you're using to run WAR all Intel machines?

Is there a way to check the temp of a Dell system?  I built my last computer and it had a temp monitor system I could check by just clicking.   it was  a Abit KT7 Raid motherboard but with this Dell system I bought I have no idea how to check the temp I don't think they come with a temp checking program.

Well, I would rather find out how hot it's running before I actually have a problem...thats kind of the point. I only played for short time but don't want to play for a long session if it's running hot.

Antialiasing was turned off for this game on default. I turned off antisoptric, however, but it makes no difference.

This is the only game that runs on 80 degrees plus on GPU, not CPU. The other games run at about 70 degrees.

The CPU is fine, it is just the graphics card that is getting hot, even after 1 min playing time.

We're looking at having a Beta patch to address this issue effecting a small number of GPU's.

Should be ready in a day or two.
