Great report - I'm close to buying this game, now.
One question, Sarge - is it possible to turn off the labels?
They're not exactly discrete and the screen looks a bit cluttered at times with them on...

Hi Briny

yes, you can switch the labels around, think there are 3 different styles, basicly, I used that for it to show up (snap shots don't always show the best detail, as you see it in the game while playing)

I will try and posts some shots with each type of labeling, to give a better idea, also try and get some closer shots, forgot to add those in, was thinking more the over all idea of what I was doing instead of showing off the troops :)

@Hard Sarge:
Thank you for taking the time to make these reports, it's always nice to see how other people play the same game.

From what I noticed we have different playstyles.
You seam to wrap up sectors much faster than I do, 5 or 6 turns is alot less than my turn count... but on the other hand you seam to take much more damage than I do, so I guess the extra time I spend hiding you spend healing ;)

Yesterday's night I only made a few sector and equipment management and hired 2 more mercs: Dragon and Vampire (already had Venom, Dagger and Snook), then it took me 2:30h to clear the Train station, but it was a really fun fight.
I entered from north, coming from starting sector.
Moved Venom (with a SVD and a AKSU) to the roof of the small white house, as well as Dagger (Garand+lazer) and Lila (my char, with a AKM+Colli). They did most of the kills by rooftop sniping.
Snook (Garand with Lazer) and Vampire (Enforcer sniper rifle) were sniping the flanks and supporting Dragon (combat shotgun+lazer +knife). Dragon did 4 or 5 kills, all almost instantly by using several turn to crawl up near isolated targets and then in 1 turn runing and striking 1 or 2 fatal knife attacks to the head of the militians. 3 knife kills around the minimarket, then I camped him inside and he took 2 more militia from the windows (1 shotgun burst to the chest at close range).
In the end of the Train sector I only took a -2hit on my personal character during wrap-up. No big deal, although could have been a problem since my char is the group's medic (50 medic, 85 Acc & Agi, 75 Str).
This fight was a lot of fun, and I really loved the slow and precise strikes, that's why I don't enjoy games with smart pause.

Btw, what do you use for screenshots? I looked in the game manual but it seams the game doesn't take screenshots and Printscreen doesn't work ingame.

well, my normal mode, I don't plan on takeing much damage either :), but one of the reasons I went to do a AAR type on this battle was I knew it was going to be close in battle and may show off the game better

I useing Hypersnap, I had it before but lost it with a HD crash, so I got the demo right now, most of the times it works (get some blank snaps at times ?)

a lot better detail then Printscreen (hmmm, I need to go see if they still know I got paintshop)

oops, ahhh, that was 3 rounds to drop the guy who wasn't looking, slinser seems to work well (LOL shot him twice in the head and he didn't notice, so shot him in the leg and then he figured out I was mad at him :)

Vemon put 3 rounds into the one guy, they went to war with me, then Dragon, tossed a Nade onto the front pouch, then went to work with his fancy shotgun

short and sweet, of course, Vemon took a little damage, but that was from the nade

but got a kick out of this part (and I got 2 hand to hand kills)

Hehe, that 1st mission is a tricky one ;)

I died a load of times before I figured out I could hide my weapons and move up to the Militia and buy a pass, was always fighting them all at same time.

When I found that out I went for the Marauders Hut and positioned my 3 mercs (me, Dagger and Venom) one close to Charles (the leader) and the other 2 by the 2 bodyguards inside the hut, and closed the Hut's door.
Dagger talked to Charles and we didn't reach an agreement so Dagger knifed him in the head until death, eheh
Then Lila (me) put 1 bodyguard in critical shape with a close range MAC-10 burst. Venom killed the other bodyguard with a close range burst too. Turn over.
Next turn another Marauder opened the door and went prone or crouch and missed a shot aimed at Venom, and the rest started coming, but never more than 1 at a time so it was really easy to kill one at a time :P
Offcourse I died several times until I figured out exactly how to do this sector safely.

Safari sector was a real pain to do, maybe the hardest so far because we start on an open area, 1 merc needs to go forward to assure the quest target NPC is freed, and there are no good covers around. On top of that I was trying to minimize the Neutrals deaths, so I had to pull the attention of the Marauders.
Really nasty scenario.

After the 2 beggining scenarios the rest all seam a lot easier to do because we always get plenty of cover, so it's only a matter of taking it really slow and watch for grenades.
Shooting the legs works well against grenade throwers ;)
