A little of topic, but ok.
I have seen Battle for Wesnoth, i think i tried it also at one or another time. I dont demand much for wargame graphics. But i cant play with cartoon graphics. Some of the terrain looks nice though.
Also this is not a fantasy mod. Its a LOTR scenario. People whom have read the books 10+ times and seen the movies 5+ times will feel the difference compared to a generic fantasy mod. I promise. Its not ready yet though.

What grievious news have just reached me, Saruman the wise, from my scouts. A lightly armed delegation of Orcs asking for the peaceful return of Helms Deep to the rightful benevolent rulership of Isengaard has been ambushed by a Rohan war party. And as Rohan is ever trying to lay the blame for this unnecessary war on us I present the following evidence.
What a sad sight to see all of these valiant Orcs lying slain on the battlefield.
Although I tried to restrain the Officers there was no holding them back. In their rightful vengeance they ambushed the attackers who were resting gleefully on the battlefield in one giant stack seemingly thinking they had us disheartened. I think we taught them that Isengaard will defend itself.
Now the war will be joined in earnest although let it be noted that this was not our intent but forced on us by Rohans aggression.[:)]

Meanwhile in the east...
Just as the sun was coming up and my urkai were getting ready for another day of fighting, huge rocks rained on them as 10/12 war machines fired away. There was complete chaos in that short period... after that a number of armies charged against the confused orcs, and they were forced to retreat...

Sauron is forced to retreat his armies to the defensive line, for fear of being decimated by a sea of Gondor infantry
The advance on Minas Tirith has stopped... for now!

During turn 5 the Orc were advancing further without meeting any resistance.
Then during t6 several things happened. As can be seen on the screenshot a lonely kohort of elves appeared. Upon closer inspection it seemed to consist of some infantry, longbows and an Ent. Fortunatly for us it appeared to be on its own.
Swift as a willow 3 units of orcs charged on and attacked it from 3 sides gaining a 50 % fighting bonus. The elves fought bravely but quickly broke because of the high number of orcs attacking from several sides. A small number of them managed to retreat, but 20 or so elfs and the ent was killed for 3 groups of orcs.
In the north the elves seem to be guarding the only bridge into Telain. We are aproaching, but slowly.
It seems a unit of elves in the middle are trying to cut of of. Some units of cavalry were sent on the intercept. The unit seem to consist of 30 or so light cavalry.

In the west the orcs are advancing without meeting any resistance. So far. A lone unit of gondorsmen are stopped at the end of the advance.

Here is the newest update on the battle over Helms Deep: The main approach Saruman took was a pincer attack with one force coming from the East and another coming from the West. Rohan noticed and send their Elite cavalry to nearly wipe out the Eastern force. However now the path to attack is open from the West. We will see if the defenders get back to Helms Deep in time. (Graphic shows beginning of turn with some edit as the game is ongoing).
On a side note: Allied Dunlending forces liberated Tharbad to the gratitude of the inhabitants. Gandalf - always the fool - tried to prevent the inevitable. We found some grey Wizards clothing full of arrows after we threw out the opressors. My orcs tell some strange rumour that the Grey Wizard will reappear as the White Wizard but I tell them these are stories to frighten only the Orc younglings and they should not believe this nonsense.

Orcs of Moria reporting.
During turns 7-8 the orcs have been advancing steadily into Fangorn. As for telain a scouting team that dared crossing the river was mercilessly cut down by elves.
On turn 8 a small elven army was come upon by the advancing forces of the red tribe in Fangorn. Our steady orcs were frightened, but more frightened by the Balrog so refused to retreat. A single Ent without support was singled out and destroyed.
In the deep halls of Moria our researchdepartment have found the secret to producing sturdier longbows. LongbowII.
In other news the supplysituation is severly strained as there are not many roads in the area.
In real life i have realized that i have som many other projects that i will not be able to write in this AAR as much as i would like. But i very much appreciate those that do.

Update from Mordor:
The war with Gondor has been costly for the orcs. A few attempts were made to reach the city, but were all stopped on the forts that surround Minas Tirith, and my orcs are forced to wait helplessly in the open plains as large stones are thrown from behind the walls, as a result morale has dropped and there is talk of mutiny.. but nothing a few executions cant fix!

Not much has changed here since the start of the game...

As the pirates continue to expand on their earlier success, they faced a very determined enemy...
Although on a small scale, Fighting here was reckless, as Gondor is determined to prevent me from crossing the river at any cost...
This is the only front where a possible breakthrough has been made, as I continued to outflank Gondor's forces, forcing them to retreat, Harad infantry are only a few miles away from Pelargir, but it is still uncertain.

Finally the news reached Saruman that the old Isengaard fortress of Helms Deep has been liberated by Orcish patriots. I am sure the inhabitants will come to see which opportunity it brings to become citizens of Isengaard. To show our benevolence we offered each and every one of them a job in our Helms Deep reconstruction crews where under the wise direction of Orc engineering expert they can help to rebuilt Helms Deep.
But just as Saruman wants to dispatch an envoy to Rohan to now settle this aimless conflict on amicable terms what news reaches me: A new unit of Rohan crosses the Isen and invades Isengaard again!?! Is there no end to Orcish and Trollish suffering? Where does all this hate and warmongering come from, I do not understand it.
It saddens me that I have to tell the Uruk-Hai that they cannot yet go home to their dungeons and mudholes but that we need to achieve some more permanent peace. But I know they will understand.... [:)]

Huge clash on two fronts between the orcs of Moria and the elves of Rivendal and Lorien. In two turns the experienced forces of Moria envelop the not so experienced forces of Rivendell and Lorien. The orcs have trained in the art of Longbowshooting for several months (LongbowmenIII). As the orcs poisoned arrows fall over the heads of the elves they rout on both fronts. Losses over 2 months of fighting amount to some 300 infantry for the elves and 20-30 orcish fighter squadrons.

Hi,
sorry for very late posting but there has been many events.
Orc spy reports show that a castle of the huge fortress around Minas is lightly guarded, Sauron sees an opportunity and orders a full scale attack on the castle, it is quickly overrun.
For years the network of fortifications around the city were never broken. this is a sign that fall of Minas is near, but Sauroin can expect a retaliation.
Isengard is angry and in an effort to retake the castle orders a counter attack with every thing it has including the huge Minas garrison
The ork defenders were ordered not to retreat 1 inch of the castle and to die in it if necessary, or they would be feed to the winged beasts
a sea of infantry charged the castle in the bloodiest battle yet...
