Here I see that the blue slice is by far and away the largest. But then, in the provences themselves, I see that the Prussian flag is displayed everywhere. So who do the Poles prefer? I thought that the flag displayed was a quick and dirty way to see who was leading with these pie charts.
Attitude and tendency-toward-protection are slightly different concepts. Remember that a minor-power can only ask for protection from a nation that has enough military units nearby -- which in your example I'm guessing Prussia does but France does not. A minor-power will choose the greatest available attitude *among qualifying nations* when seeking a protector. Other things that might disqualify a nation from being chosen the protector is if it is allied to a nation at war with a minor-power.

And here, a few months after the defeat of his country, this general is still hanging around and swears allegiance to the country of Piedemont.
Why? I like flavor, but I am just wondering why.
Poor soul has nowhere else to go.

The more I look at the map, the more I wonder if the problem with Switzerland is in large part due to the fact that you made Piedmont two regions instead of one. [;)]
Wasn't Victor Amadeus III after the Battle of Millesimo forced to surrender Savoy and Nice to France in 1796? We couldn't show this without having separate provinces.

If you protectorized that country he would become an officer for you I think. Try testing that.
Anyways, even Major factions will have units that hang around after they have been completely eliminated from the game. Seems a mechanism that would "clean up the board" is missing or doesnt work right in certain situations.

Bump up the values of a neighboring Prussian province to compensate.
Yes, that is a possibility, but we want to avoid certain provinces becoming sources of super-wealth when we can. As with everything, we would have to go over the data files somewhat carefully, test the changes, etc.
