Csatahajos wanted some hors d'oeuvres to munch on before dinner, so .. some of the biggies; Fuso and Ise, and KG-V, Indiana, and Royal Sovereign.
One of my favorites is the late war upgrade of the S.Dakota class with the enclosed bridge platform and relocated main mast - of course with upgraded armament and radar.

Drooool Drooool!!!

Actually looking at the R class again something is not 100% right for me with the main superstructure. Above the conning tower the bridge/compass platform should be a bit higher. The CT is barely taller than turret 'B' even with the range finder hood. On the other hand it's a bit smaller than it's depicted.
Don't want to sound critical as I can imagine the amount of work you out into this, just a small observation.

(recently I've just put up a vanilla 1.0 ver of Wit to test my RAM-drive...).
apologies for O/T question, but how did this work out? any suggestions on type/size of RAM drive?

Oh, no. Critical is good. Please feel free. We want to do right.
Pic I posted is a '45 version of, I really forget which. At this scale, one pixel in height is sometimes one pixel too many. Freely admit we use the old Mk-1 eyeball and a gut feel for perspective to make things look 'pretty'. And these old pukes were butt-ugly from the get-go.
I think you might be thinking of this one;

We did our best to match the decks and fore & aft positions. If you want, I can do up a special Hungarian version and tell you just which bitmap to drop it into. [;)]

So you're saying that Henderson only has one electron microscope and you all have to share it...

Beautiful work. The realistic art adds a great deal to the game for me. Thanks to each of the contributing artists.

Hi Kwik,
this is an MS certified software downloadable from here:
http://www.superspeed.com/ramdisk.php
It can address RAM outside of what is used by the OS, so even with a 32 bit OS you can use extra memory.
Since DDR2 memory is extra cheap these days I had the fortune to get 8GB Corsair XMS2 1066Mhz (as a WitPer one just have to love this memory maker

) for around 80 USD. Then just install this 6MB software, go to the settings and create a 4GB drive. It is automatically saved to the hard disk on every boot so it does not 'forget' what you install into it.
I'd say it's a nice thing to have but too small to be really useable, though one can still put in one's favourite game. I don't know how much does the Witp ver 1.0 vanilla install take on your PC but to the RAM drive it installed in less than 30 seconds, probably closer to 15.... Game loading times are not that quick compared to a good modern HDD, but still noticable difference. Turn resolution also seems to be fast, though this might very well be because vanilla 1.0 is no match anymore for a modern CPU.
So to put it shortly if you have more than 4GB system memory then it worth a try.

Ok, think I remember, sort of. Iirc, we used Ramillies, after the second major refit. 3rd deck added a Bofors, 4th and 5th were expanded to give room for the electronics that replaced the mechanical/optical crap on 3rd deck. We used it because it just looked more modern.
But, here’s a graphic based on a pic of Royal Sovereign from September 1942. This is the graphic we are using for the opening day versions of the class. Would be very interested in your comments.
Ciao. John

Hi John,
many thanks for your reply. First of all it shows from your post how seriously you all take this AE project and I just love it. I really really did not meant to push back the dev with a month

but I'm too much of a battleship fan not to address this minor inaccuracy.
Here is a picture I made to compare with Fremen's R. I guess this picture tells 100X better what I was thinking about than my poor wording.

Ohh this one looks absolutely OK!
Well Rami had an extended bridge but I felt a bit much on the drawing. Never mind, this Royal Sovereign based one is absolutely fine and fits generic R closer and now this explained everything.
So does this mean that ships will have specific graphics not a class generic one?

Well....us naval modders will take care of that once it's out the door! [;)]

Ok, good to know

Tom, looking forward to that!
Ohh BTW one small addition. If we take that graphic as Ramillies then you should change the main mast to a tall tripod with a RF looking aft at about the height of the funnel cap and add some AA (Oerlikons on to B and X turrets just above the gunports).

I thought I saw that one in the mix somewhere. Let the KJB check on it and get back to ya.
Is this pic 42 or 43? Brit BB's aren't my cup of tea...[:D]

Pics are supposedly 1944 as John said late war (I'm jsut checking my sources if I can come up with any extra info).
I realize that in such a dimunitive pixel pitch it's difficult to put in that much detail but since you did a great job with smaller vessels I thought this may worth a revisit.

Well, as Terminus says; unfortunately no. The graphics are Class specific, not Ship specific. We could do multiple classes to represent all the different ships, at different times, but that would take slots and stress our presbyopia. So, yes, it's basically generic.
As Brother Tom says, let the KJB check on it and get back to ya. I'm sure we can rummage around in the yard, and find a tripod mast somewhere, Think we cut a couple off some US BBs. A little cutting torch here, a little welding there - [:D]

Ok csatahajos, TomLabel found a tripod mast in the back corner of the yard. Been there for a while, and nobody seems to want it. so he scrubbed off some corrosion, tried it out, and lo! it fits! He also put some Oerlikons on B and X.
'K than, we'll use the R.Sov. graphic for the early war ships (like before), and this one, of the Rami, for the 44 and beyond upgrades.

It's a wonder you guys aren't including barnacles with that level of detail. [&o]
