Anything with "Hearts of Iron" in the name might as well be called "Butts of Chewed Bubble Gum" as far as I care.
Ditto

I played plenty of Pdox games, and I enjoyed in most of them, except in EUIII. Excellent game, great improvement over the EUII, which is also a great game, but I just couldn't get pass that 3D map. It's just plain ugly. Hopefully HOI3 will be better.

Hearts of Iron is more like a geopolitical simulator, where one has to lead a nation from 1936 till '45 and beyond. You got to consider economy, infrastructure, research, intelligence, diplomacy and of course warfare. It let you create what-if-scenarios, alternate history and build your own vision of europe or the world. In regard to this it's a great game.
HoI 3 will offer more details and micromanagement as it's precursor and I'm looking forward for this title.

I have been happy with Paradox titles. Currently I play EU:Rome with Vae Victis add-on, EUII with AGCEEP, Crusader Kings with Deus Vult add-on and sporadically Hearts of Iron 2. They are totally different from WitP , more like geopolitical games than wargames.

Afaik no. You really couldn't even in HoI2 unless you exploited the hell out of the system (editing savegames, reloading 101 times to get that 1 in a million result etc.)

I wonder if HOI 3 is really much more than HOI 2 with a graphics update.
I've bought HOI 2 and EU3. I like both games, but lets just say I'm glad I got them well after their initial release at $9.99 each. I got a lot more return from HOI 2, but never mistook it for anything more than pure entertainment. Nothing wrong with that.

Should consider Victoria as well if you don't own it already.

What length of time does a turn represent in HOI3?

There are no turns in HoI. Actually you give orders in pause mode and let the game run in realtime afterwards.

This is really a bit off topic, so I'm moving to the General Discussion forum...

The first time I heard the name "Paradox" it was middled with so much bashing that the mods had to lock down the threads. Yes, the bugs issue was a big part of that. So I don't know...
Wasn't the first one sort of half-rts based, or was it fully turn-based? Anyhow... it may be best to go with a classic like this:

No turns. It's pauseable continuous time. You can speed it to days going by every second, or slow it down to a crawl. One of the things that always bothered me about it was the constant popups of messages. Got tedious.

That's what always bothered me too. I always felt like I was playing the WW2 wargaming equivalent of juggling or plate-spinning. Naval popups, diplomacy pop-up, research pop-ups. Too much going on all at once.

I think I may buy it as I've done with some other Paradox Games.
But you'll have to wait until the 3rd or 4th patch as Paradox ALWAYS uses its buyers as alphatesters... Not even the simplierst things are fixed which should have appeared if only played once...

Never got on with Hearts of Iron I and II at all, and won't be bothering third time around. Odd.. I like EU3 and really like Crusader Kings, but for WW2 the Paradox approach pretty much sucks IMHO.

I like HoI-and will eventually buy HoI3. I admit that some aspects of the stock versions leave something to be desired-which is why I started using the mods as soon as I learned to play the thing. (HoI2 was my first one). Some mods really made a great game out of this-especially CORE.
It is fitting to note that even modders, when asked why they are even bothering to further update their mods for Armageddon when '3 is so close to release, say HoI3 will take a couple of patches (and a good amount of time) to bring it up to speed.
None the less, I think that eventually HoI3 will be a very good game-especially inview of the modding community involved with it.

Since AE won't be out anytime soon is their anything else out other than HPS offering? Don't really want to get hooked into HOI again.[;)]

Have you already tried Commander: Europe at War, Close Combat: The Longest Day and Crown of Glory: Emperor's Edition? [8D]
