Jjax, shouldn't be attacked. I'd like better graphics in AE too. We talked about it. We talked about how dated they were when Stock WitP came out in 2004!!!

The fact is, what makes WitP special ain't the graphics...Any moron can draw a pretty picture...But can your pretty picture accurately, and consistently recreate history in such fidelity that you can play a 5 year long game and have it play out nearly the same way that history did?

For kicks I went and you-tubed the "BS" series. I watched in horror as the Midway attack was executed with unescorted Vals, and Shindens that took on Buffaloes on CAP and LOST! Then a flight of B-17s overflew two IJN Carriers and a Fuso Class battleship and were immolated by the vicious AAA fire of the IJN ships that steamed in seemingly random directions. All you need do, to win the game it would seem, is put the cross hairs on your target and hold the fire button down til it is vaporized then systematically move on to the next target...rinse and repeat. Seems pretty mind numbing, even if the grpahics are 5 star.

I'll take smarts over looks any day. Fortunately I didn't have to make that decision when I picked my wife...

Alright, to those who didn't get it, this was a joke thread.

Here is some advice, when someone mentions five start title and the battle station games in the same sentence, they are making a joke.

As for the people behind the art in AE, it is actually my second favorite thing about AE when compared to WITP stock. Sorry, the whole waypoint system still tops the list.

Waypoint system rocks my world! I do like I can sort everything when picking leaders, ships.. etc. That is great. Naming taskforces....oh my [&o]

If you can get that done by next patch, that would be better.

Nice one Elf so shes cute Co0l,If i could have it all i would love it, too to have Great Graphics in this game all the Histological Data!but it would but 6 to 10 years before we get to that level of game play.maybe WITP 5

This is a top down grognard game, the graphics are wonderful for that.

A worrying comment in that, even for 'top down grognard games' things need to move on. I have no problems with AE as it is essentially a mod of a game that is fairly long in the tooth now, in graphics terms at least, but I would be far from impressed with a new title. Even HPS games run in the monitor resolutions favoured THIS decade.

The conversion to 3D sprites is slated to come *after* the bridge-view simulator and the Guadalcanal FPS module.

I pretty much skip through the combat replays...still...you have to admit..it would be cool to see Akagi take one on the flight deck.

The cardboard cut-out ship conters (as carefully crafted as they are)
still look kind of silly lined up like the start of a regatta and superimposed on an orthogonal view of the ocean surface with glassy, 20 foot waves. [:)]

Of course, it is still the best comercially available computer wargame.

I agree it would be nice if it were a little less dated, but I appreciate most effort has been put into the substance of the game instead of uber-amazing graphics that require a brand new Alienware rig just to play it.

The graphics are fine for me. The resolution (1024x768) is unacceptable in 2009.

Agreed. The longer I play games (been at it for around 20 years now) the less I care about graphics. WITP/AE could be ASCII graphics for all I care, as long as it remained just as fun as it is now.
But considering how complex the game is, things that can be done graphically to streamline and enhance playability are also important.

AMEN! Far too much garbage has been foisted off on the public on the basis of "awesome graphics"...., to the point that anytime I see the "graphics" getting prime place in the advertising I automatically write the title off as a pretty piece of cr-p!

Prettiness is for Colonel Everett Dasher Breed's troops! 

Good graphics do have its place. I do love the occasional FPS on my xbox 360. But for turn base strategy games, im willing to settle for functional.

I always liked the graphics in UV,WITP, and now AE. I always thought they got the job done pretty well.
