Yeah, PH fusiliers usually take a beating, as do other elite units. Since it's just a single battle, there's no point in going easy on them, so I'll exploit their ability to sustain heavy casualties and stay an effective unit as much as I can.
This is from a current, different game, where the balance has now slowly turned in the Austrian's favour. Every time the Prussians are about to break through, the Austrians throw in fresh reinforcements, thanks to the roads running behind their position.
The redoubts of death:
2/Forcade, 2/PvP, Kahlden grenadiers and 1/PH were captured in the fight for those redoubts, as were two Austrian battalions. Some grenadiers were completely destroyed, and most other units have taken heavy casualties in a series of repeated attacks and counter-attacks. PH made the greatest gains, with 1/PH actually overrunning a battery and holding the objective for a turn before succumbing to a counterattack. 2/PH is still hanging in there, as the Prussians prepare for yet another attack.
At a very conservative estimate, that leaves ~ 4316 infantry casualties in the fight for the redoubt (2616 Prussian, 1700 Austrian), with another 4250 captured (2750 Prussian, 1500 Austrian) and a further 1172 casualties in the artillery duel.
Actual casualties are probably quite a bit higher, as all captured units saw intense combat before being forced to surrender, but I didn't keep track of that and thus assumed them as captured with their full strength.
One Austrian grenadier unit has been reduced to exactly 1/220 by Prussian bombardment.
Edit: It's over. In turn 12, Prussians overran another battery and actually gained the redoubts one more time (and I was so excited I forgot to take a screenshot), but had nothing left to deal with the Austrian counterattack. 1/Forcarde and 2/PH were captured after sustaining heavy losses, and the remaining Prussian battalions are now retreating, covered by their cavalry.
There is no Austrian pursuit, with their troops also being exhausted after suffering close to 30% casualties (Prussians are close to 50%).
I'm pulling the Austriansa couple of hexes back as well, so in a few turns we should get a good look at the true scale of the slaughter...
