Are there any useful spread sheets for Allies? I see alot of threads for Japanese, but it doesnt seem there is alot on Allies. I am assuming that the Japanese must be a bit more challenging to play, so maybe that is the reason.

If you are invading an enemy base, use your LSD's, AK's, AKA's, AP's and APA's in the amphibious TF. If you use xAP's or worse, xAK's or xAKL's, they'll unload VERY slowly. I think the Japanese has a bonus unloading ability for some of their xAK's but they'll still unload slower than an AP or AK or specialized landing ship.
The unload bonus applies to any ship that has capacity as far as I know. It's been a while since I read that part of the manual.

One thing it took me a little while to figure out, even though it was right in front of my face......AIR HQs have the biggest group of AV support. THOSE are the old Aviation Regts. Most have 70+ AV or more. Make the AIR HQs even more valuable.
Naval Base Forces, though chock full of Naval Support, don't provide alot of AV support anymore, just 24.
It's a big adjustment from old Av Rgt/Base Force/Special Base Force/all other base force model

I still cannot seem to figure out whole what device size does/doesnt unload at various size ports, with/without Naval support present, using AP/xAP , Transport/Amphibious mode etc.
I always seem to end up with part of the support equipment left onboard or am unable to pickup all the LCU after an Amphib landing to move it on to next atoll etc.
Cannot find a table/rule that ties it all together, experimenting as I go along, but no hard rules yet.
As a test I've gone to Ndeni with an Amphibious TF with just a F Det USN Naval support unit to experiment with best way to kick off a (0) port and get some ENG, INF fully unloaded to expand the base.
I had to laugh when I checked after first turn of the TF being in the hex, the Aviation Support had unloaded first, with all the Naval support still onboard. [X(]
Will see how I go after it's fully unloaded and I try to move a unit with larger Devices in.

Edit: For those who have not downloaded it, what Mike displayed was less than 5% of the total spreadsheet which seems to cover every Japanese LCU as well as providing much more information about each unit (including at-start locataion)
Agreed. Excellent file. The only thing missing (other than arriving units) is a column that shows which units can be combined into a larger formation. That would be a handy addition.
P.S. Eternal curses upon Vista: Instead of simply grabbing and renaming it, I had to use a work-around so complex that I don't remember what I did just to change the file type to xls; renaming in Vista doesn't change the file type, and when you try to change the file type it only offers you choices based upon the current filetype (which seems fairly useless to me).
Here's a better way. When you click on the attachment, it brings up the small file download window. Right-click on the link and select "Save Target As", and point it toward whatever folder you want, and then type in the file name as shown in the download window (although in this particular case if you simply omit the ".txt" then it will open right up as an excel file.)

I was starting to create an Allied version of that thing and thought, "there has to be a better way!?", and fortunately there is. If you guys haven't downloaded and played with WitP Tracker AE, all I can say is "DO SO IMMEDIATELY!!" Not only is an Allied version of Mike's spreadsheet available, but there are cool tools for monitoring Japanese production, an excellent aircraft "side-by-side" comparison, and even a spreadsheet that tells you exactly which locations are "spoiling" oil/supplies/fuel etc. And much, much, much, more. The thread is stickied near the top of the AE main page and here's a link to their home page:

pbem, 7/12 start, non historic, surprise on - im not going the way of a conventional war without wishing to say anything else, but i have 7 divisions loaded onto ships, however these appear to be xAP, and xAK - just how much longer than a specialist ship are these going to kick out my troops over the beaches - am i doomed? - bearing in mind i will have local air superiority but i do want to be on terra firma as quick as possible

Actually, they're good for ~6 months. You get a bonus. Note that the Japanese start with exactly 0 APs and AKs.

ah, forgot about the bonus - youre a life saver, i was terrified they were going to be there for weeks!!!!
yes i noticed no AK APs as soon as i read further up from here that there were right and wrong ships - cool - the invasion is still on then
As a side note - are you converting all -ts back to the original?

Yeah, eventually. I noticed that you can move a
lot of units (4 Inf Div, 21 Inf Div, 33 Inf Div, 2 Inf Div and miscellaneous smaller units) that start the war in Japan and China to staging bases in the Pacific, Indochina or Formosa using just the xAPs. From there you can reuse the xAKs from the initial invasion waves to hit the next wave of targets. I think this wave after wave strategy might be able to keep the Allies off balance to keep them from saving critical units from the SRA. Also, once the Allied air power is trashed things should proceed along nicely (I hope).
I figure that by about May 42 (when the bonus ends), the major expansion of the Japanese Empire will be over. By then, I expect to have all the -ts converted. I plan on converting some xAKs to AKs to support the few invasions that'll happen.
Again, this is all conjecture. That's the goal. When I start my AAR, we can all discuss the merits of various strategies.

I'm hoping to get the first turn to my opponent by the end of October. I'm notoriously slow with the first turn. In WitP, I typically took 80-100 hours to get the turn done. I really would like to start the AAR but it's just too early. Maybe next week if I get a nice chunk of things done this weekend.

is it SAIEW to close down an airfield - 20(?) damage to prevent strikes, and 60(?) damage to prevent CAP from taking off?
and does any eng squad act as a construction battallion or do i specifically need the ones that say construction in the title?

That makes sense, as it ties into the planned release date for Patch 2. It sounds like they are addressing a lot of important issues.
