Will, do you still have this saved? Can you also give us the production tableau for these two countries?

Fighting consecutively weaker countries it is not the same as fighting with USSR. Giving the ww2 history to expect a walkover through USSR... Would it be fun to win easily with USSR?

“Very easy” setting is for really easy games. Normal setting is meant to reflect as it was(of course it is extremely difficult to make perfect balance).

I agree with your point, but I'm having difficultly expressing mine, so I'll try again.

I'm playing on normal difficultly.

I'm controlling all the Axis countries.

I'm applying perfect historical insight to crush virtually every known opponent before taking on the USSR.

By May '41, France, England, Norway, Africa, and the entire Middle East are defeated.

Now with Turkey and Persia allied with the Axis, I invade the USSR earlier than the historical date.

I would expect the walkover to continue, since had the real Axis done as well, I believe they would have crushed the USSR.

This current game is a fun challenge to play, so like I said, I respect your balancing the USSR power. [:)]

However, IMHO, there are two completely separate issues that are problematic:

1. the 271% war effort, strategic movement and/or the PP represented by the strategic movement seem way out of line to either the Barbarossa scenario or human opponent games.

2. the choice of balancing the game at the point of invading the USSR is jarring in the sense that England, Africa and the Middle East were beyond what the real life Axis could achieve, yet they still made a closely run effort to defeat the USSR. As it is, the game suggests that with paltry (by comparison) efforts of the real life Axis, they could have never come close. In other words, if you mod the Barbarossa USSR csv to 271% WE and the PPs equivalent to 48 SMP, does anyone think that would be balanced? Is there any way to make England and the Middle East more historically difficult? Of course, this entire point is very subjective, so if the USSR remains the balancing point, so be it....

In any event, I'd be happy to send the save game to interested parties (too large to upload). [:)]

Will, that Soviet production summary is very very strange.

Just fyi, the Barbarossa Soviet production starts off with 83 points coming from resources, and 195 from cities. (And about a dozen points from annexed cities.)

Your summary has a grossly inflated WE compared to the scenario...but seriously understates the base points coming from cities and resources.

Something very bizarre is going on here.

This is after 4 months of combat. Many cities have been taken...

Oh, gotcha.

Tbh, even though something seriously buggy is going on here, you really are well on the way to winning this anyhow. You've cut their production by over 50% already.

Ultimately even this massive economic boost this isn't enough to save the AI.

The good news, I suppose, is that none of this matters in player versus player games, because this economic weirdness won't happen. You won't see a human Soviet player rocking those production numbers.

Putting aside the uncertainty of the AI performance, your level of accomplishment by May '41 is quite impressive.

Still, I wonder if the amount of production points available at normal settings is a bit excessive. I know there are other settings but what if normal is abnormal?

Just to be as clear as possible, I'm not especially concerned about winning.

Here are my concerns (poorly stated though they may be...) from a previous post:

1. the 271% war effort, strategic movement and/or the PP represented by the strategic movement seem way out of line to either the Barbarossa scenario or human opponent games.

2. the choice of balancing the game at the point of invading the USSR is jarring in the sense that England, Africa and the Middle East were beyond what the real life Axis could achieve, yet they still made a closely run effort to defeat the USSR. Yeah, you've got this one in the bag, Will.

Not only are you well ahead of schedule on the main front, that secondary offensive into the Caucasus is devastating. Losing the oil hurts bad.

Thanks, but credit goes to Flaviusx who said (about my previous game posted the The War Room):

"One way to overcome the ant problem for the Germans: build your own ants and lots of them. You can actually get high odds attacks against scratch Soviet divisions with German divisions, and you'll have more APs to play with. Using big bad panzer corps for ant stopping is uneconomical. So, instead of running around with 12 motorized corps, reduce that number and give yourself some motorized divisions"

This game demonstrated the wisdom of that approach. Thanks Flaviusx! [&o]
