According to my quick Internet search, in German the badger is called a dachs. I suppose that makes sense, since that would make a dachshund a "badger hound", bred to go into badger warrens.
I thought Dachshund was an corruption used in English. Isn't the German name Dackel, which gave the nickname Dackelbauch to the long range Bf110D in BoB? I might be wrong, in which Stephen Fry will be getting an angry letter for misleading me [:D]

No, "Dackel" is the German colloquialism for "Dachshund".

If you plan to use 'ferocious animal' names, Terminus, you might want to use 'Leeuw' as well. It's Dutch for 'lion' and a symbol of the Netherlands.
