Steel Fury 42 is a tank sim, whereas TOW2 and Kharkov 43 are closer to RTS strategy (though aiming for far more realism than your average RTS). Not wholly comparable...

I can see why you had problems. Getting the controls down in this game can be time consuming and don't seem to work. The keys say hit -control f3 to move to the commandes position. But a no go. Trying changing this in options but doesnt seem to work.

I gave up on it when in the tutorial my tank decided to stop part way up a hill....couldn't get it up the hill...nothing...tried reversing and going up again...tried low gear...tried a run up...tried reversing up...nothing...couldn't get up, so shelved it.

Apologies. Yes you are in one tank, though IIRC you can order your platoon about as well. But the key part is that you are the the tank crew, and can move to gunner station, driver station etc.
The other two are your top down control the whole force as overall commander games...no looking down gunsights.

I may be wrong, but I believe it is just "F3" to move to the Commander's position. I think the CTRL-F3 is to move to the position if the commander is dead (you have to move the body).
Also...if you are in a T34/76 - there is not a separate commander position...the gunner is the commander, so moving between them has no effect.
It is a very good game/sim, but is not immediately accessible, lots of commands, and the realism can make some simple things more complex (i.e. JD's problems driving up a steep incline in an underpowered Matilda)

My problem with games like this then are not realism. If the underpowered Matilda finds it nigh impossible to get up a steep incline, don't give it to me in the bloody tutorial. I didn't get past the tutorial because of this and it was precisely because I couldn't get past the tutorial I wasted £25.
If you're going to make a tutorial, then make it easy/fun/enjoyable whilst at the same time being informative. Don't make it impossible and put the user off right away! What a dumb idea. [:-]

Fair comment. [:)]
But it was informative...tanks powered by two bus engines welded together only work on the flat.

I hope it helps. It is a very good game, but the controls can be frustrating.

Steel Fury 1942 is an outstanding WW2 tank sim...feels more like a real WW2 war simulator. I get the feeling that my tank is part of the overall battle...I'm not the center of it, just another piece of puzzle - I really like that! ...
Thanks !!!

and at 19.95 sells for about the cost , or less of an add on... or three planes in ROF!!!
I was able t odl this and will do a side by side between it and Tow2(BF) Kursk after each is fully released... This feels totally different than the TOW2 title, not better, just different...
I will wait till each is out and do a full in depth side by side..

Been playing the demo and I love this game. It finally feels like a 3d Close Combat with some combat mission thrown in.
I hate RTS games but this is the first one since the CC series that I can handle. One hell of a game that Im going to buy as soon as possible.
Love it
One game Matrix should have snapped up. I remember trying to get Dave to contact the developers of Steel Fury once Lighthouse went bust. I think he had problems contacting them, I tried for him but to no avail.

I am guardedly optimistic. The demo had a walk through for its command console that steps you through. Which is good cause the controls are alien. Lots of ambiance, I thought the battlefield was haunted [:D], background flares and nice little lighting touches. The battlefield seems vast. Uses groupings by squad or platoon. No individual man control. But you can move a squad to a single spot or have them find their own cover, which they do better than I.
I haven't quite grasped the grand strategy part of the game. There was a grid that had T 34's in it. They performed rather smart. If you are looking to micro manage your units you might be disappointed. Your units will stop to fire at targets of opportunity on their own. I had no problem with that as it was an eventual threat anyways.
