German troops break through the Russian lines south of Minsk and mobile units poor into the empty space. Large encirclements are possible now.

The battle of encirclement starts in Belarus. Will the Soviet's be able to sustain the losses?

The German units slice through our defenses as a knife does through butter.

Germany pushes north into the Baltic states but has still one strong tank corps assigned to a group of units operating on the Minsk-Bryansk vector. Are the Germans discouraged from pressing further east via Smolensk on Moscow? Hopefully.

Allied Diplomacy not yet decisive in Belgium -+- USSR breaks through defenses in southern Finland -+- Baltic states and V.Luki under pressure, USSR losses mount.

Finland is on the run after putting up a fine defense while the USSR is pushed around by the Germans in the North. The rest of the East Front is quiet - and so is the West.

Operations in Finland are going well but the Germans make continuous progress wresting the Baltic states back from us (Lithuania still neutral curiously). We anticipate to loose Rezekne soon.

While the Western Allies are still stepping up the strategic bombing campaign, Germany goes after its business in the Baltic undeterred and also appears suddenly in the outskirts of V.Luki. The USSR starts a limited counterattack (and even that may be too strong of a word) in the south.

Where German tank corps make an appearance the Germans are unstoppable. Luckily they have only so many of these monster units. The USSR is waiting for their first Infantry technology advance (L1 to L2) which will make German progress more costly. Our starting 150PP had been invested into this R&D in September '39 and we have invested more over the past months since we cannot save more than 500PP without running the risk of suffering wastage.

The Russians cannot hold the Baltic states it seems. There are lots of USSR defenders but all in the wrong places (i.e. around Smolensk). Infantry corps upon Infantry corps is sent on grueling marches north behind the front to ease the lack of units in southern Estonia. But it is not enough. On the other hand we should be happy that these units have diverted the Germans into the Baltic cul-de-sac.
All other sections of the Russian front are without German tanks and we can hold. The Axis is not too adventurous in other theaters either (France / Belgium / Denmark / Yugoslavia etc).

Welcome back. Glad you read the AAR.
Just curious (for us sino-illiterates) what is the meaning of the text underneath the Republic of China flag in your personal logo?

It should read (from left to right and top to bottom) "I come to China to help with the struggle. I am a foreigner (American). Army and People, we are all together! Help me!"
Just edited the "American" thing into "French" so I could customize it [:)]
It's the message reading on the back of the Flying Tigers's pilots' flight jacket, should they get shot down.

Interesting, thank you. Now that you pointed me in the right direction I was able to look up the unmodified original.

There is a chill in the air as the summer campaigning season comes to a close soon. Germany did so far not penetrate into the Russian heartland and the winter weather will not make this an easier task. USSR losses increased but we should count ourselves lucky so far.

Strange rumblings at the Italian-French and French-German border. We are not sure what is afoot.
The Germans make further progress in the Baltic states and emergency evacuations of officials are made in Tallin. It is doubtful whether we can hold it. But we beef up the V. Luki defenses with our new high tech Infantry. Resource restrictions will make it necessary to supply the L2 refits only where absolutely critical.

While the Finnish campaign slowly enters its final stage, it looks as if the front lines soon become as static in the Baltic as they are in all other parts of the East Front. If not in Russia, where will Germany find its Lebensraum? There are many potential victims left on the map....
The French and British can still only influence the war via strategic bombing.

Most of the German armor has left the Russian front or is at least not withing the two hex visibility range. Where will they reappear?
