Most likely this is wishfull thinking, but is the AI for DW as good as or near as good as the AI for HTTR/COTA ?

It will be better at diplomacy,research and expanding a galactic empire one would think.

OK a wargame. I don't really like these type of games, they are too operational. I prefer to leave the combat part to the admirals/generals and just tell them how, when and where to attack and run my empire.

Any chance of releasing the manual as a pdf download. A good marketing ploy!!! May whet some appetites of the fence sitters![:)]

It's tough to compare, to be honest, but I would say that the AI for DW is quite intelligent (as AIs go). The automation is certainly much more than just "passable". It reacts and decides in an intelligent fashion, which makes it much more enjoyable to use.

on your border ready to glass you out of existance[:@]?

And

Can Pirates be killed off? Can the pirate bases be eliminated? Do the pirate bases return after being destroyed?
Can the pirate base numbers be adjusted in the start up screens? Or text files?

Yes, in the diplomacy screen it tells you in detail all of the factors that are making another empire like/dislike you, and how much each factor matters.

Yes, you can wipe out a pirate faction by destroying their base. New pirate factions do appear, but tend to start off further away from established empires.

In the Start and New Game screen you can control the prevalence of pirates - even completely disabling them if you wish.
