If you want a good WW2 flight sim then IL2 1946 is the ticket. I haven't played it online, but many of the user made offline campaigns are well done. I also have some good adds on. 2 are from Pluswave and I have another 2 for Europe that work with 1946. Also have archive of user made skins.

The only caveat is running on Vista and Win7. Officially it's not compatible, but many have gotten it to run under both with no issues. For some reason I couldn't under either and spent hours trying to troubleshoot. In the end I'm running IL2 on a XP machine.

I have Falcon Allied Force. I used to spend hours playing Falcon3, but I haven't spent the time to learn Falcon Allied Force. It has a huge learning curve. Lomac looks great if you have a machine that can handle it. The learning curved is not as high as Falcon AF, but it's still considerable.

I just went and got Il-2 1946 for $6 and going to try to find some campaigns following the luftwaffe/british over Normandy

Wings over Europe and Combat Over Europe have Campaigns and single missions for Normandy. You can also play the Luftwaffe and Im pretty sure the British too.

About the only dissapointment I had was when Pacific Fighters came out. Nice planes, but hardly any missions and the campaign/career left much to be desired.

There are gome great user made campaign-I like the 49th over NG where you fly the P-38. Another interesting one is where you fly for Australia in a P-40 over NG and PM. Other good ones is the Malta Campaign, The early Far East when you fly a Buffalo against the Japanese, Beaufigthers over the Desert and one where you fly for Italy in the Med.

Somebody made a Pearl Harbor recreation. I downloaded it and it ran like molasses. There were far too many planes and objects. I'm going to try it again when I upgrade the hardware on the XP box running IL2.

If you buy Wings over Waves and Wings over Jungles you'll get a ton of Pacific stuff and plenty of American and Japanese missions and 8 campaigns.

I think 20 years from now IL2 will still be impressive.

Does anyone know where you can get replays to download that will work with IL2-1946? Sometimes its just fun watching replays.

I'd do Ageod's ACW. Awesome game that deserves to be on everyone's hard drive.

Also, I"ve been reading very good things about HPS Midway. I might pull the trigger on it or Panther's Battles for the Bulge

I concur totally....this series and War in the Pacific are THE war games in the Matrix catalogue.

I highly recommend Matrix's Bombing the Reich. Also a very detailed strategy game covering WWII air war. I like it. I think that most WITP players would enjoy it. [:)]

There are many wonderful war games to come down the lines over the years, Only reason I ask here because I went out and bought a few of the horrible spoofs over the years like Red Baron II and Battle of Britain which were flight sim's that were given up by the Dev's and left with so many holes in the game you couldn't even finish a campaign without it crashing. However other games like Panzer General 2 has a family which im proud to be apart of that have been making scenarios for years now and still enjoy the PBEM fan base. Also my last purchase was a matrix games called Smugglers IV, and after playing it for roughly 8 hours total I beat the game and there is no interest to further develop the game with mods or such.

Close Combat Cross of Iron was a nice upgrade to Close Combat 3, however matrix should of really upgraded the AI or PBEM ladder for it, otherwise its still a classic war game, that every wargamer should have. I strongly recommend if you have few bucks laying around to check it out, the PBEM pretty much only way to play it, as the AI is still in its 1997 form and simple enough you can figure out every map.
