Starting a new thread for music/sounds as requested by PyleDriver. I would like to hear Al Stewart's "Road to Berlin" as part of the opening sequence to THE GAME. But with copyright law and the mess called public domain I seriously doubt that this wish will materialize. Anyway after I watch the opening sequence the first time I turn off the all of the sounds anyway and turn on my own music. If it will speed up the release of of this gem I think that the sounds package could be offered as a downloadable mod pack with the first patch...
Its called Roads to Moscow dude. [8D]

I'm fond of Wagner's Ride of the Valkyries...besides being used by a Panzer Unit before an attack in WWII (well at least one author said he did) who could forget Col Kilgore's " put on a little psywar op...a little Romeo Foxtrot, shall we dance". The chaos of war, explosions, gunfire, incoming rounds, friendly fire (by the way, does WiTE account for friendly fire?) are set to that tune.
What would really be perfect if you could embed the CD with the scents of diesel, sweat, grime, grease, and "napalm...smells like victory" this would be the perfect wargame! LOL. [:D]
It already looks like a perfect game to me...ready to buy now! Or work on some what if scenarios!

Wagner might go well for the early war. After the Tigers show up I think anything by Ramstein would work.

Actually the more that I think of it, WitE should have the entire 7th Symphony by Shostakovich. Its 70 minutes long, which is plenty of time for a game's musical score. Its public domain, its about world war II and it was written (partially) in Leningrad and played a major part in the Soviet's propaganda campaign. Its a perfect fit.
I agree. As much as I like heavy metal, Pink Floyd or Rammstein, I think it doesn't go well with a game like WitE. I'd prefer music that isn't as intruisive as hard rock, so a good classical theme would be nice: Sjostakovitch or Dvorak's 9th New World Symphony.
Then again, it's always possible to have no ingame music, and have your own mediaplayer play the music you want.

Well still to this day I love the music originally in SSI (and Gary's) Steel Panthers 1. In fact when SP Camo got the code for SP2 from SSI and redesigned the game up from the stand point of SP1 I added back the old SSI music in my personal directory, lol.
I like the music in AWAW and also Commander in Europe.
Slayer and Metallic works good too (at least from the Kill Em All album, but that is from my youth in the early 80s).

The first game I've ever played that got the music right and is a joy even after hours of play is Ageods WW1 Le Grande Guerre.
The most annoying in recent times for me was the menu music for CMSF....aaaarrrggghhh!!! Thankgod for mods...
With this in mind I'd say German and Russian music of th times...military music or Russian Folk...

I think that the Hymn to the Red October (from the movie Hunt for the Red October) would be fitting for the Russians. Also, I always liked the opening to the game Blitzkrieg.

Depending on which side you play "Deutchland uber alles" or the "International" would be a good opening tune
