Now the "chickens come home to roost" for my not fully thinking thru the para attack
on Amami Oshima. I thought I could supply thru Okinawa, but they are short of supplies.
The convoy that got thru from Manila, came under heavy air attack and the CVEs
took substantial damage.I may find myself being in a position of not being able to
supply and not being able to withdraw.

I havent seen any rammings, but then I dont read through all the combat reports like I should[8D]

Amami Shima wil be a pile of guano when I land, its a good training base and convenient for bombardment runs!

Jeffk: In retrospect, my attack on Amami may have been ill advised at this point.
Should probably have waited till sufficient supplies were in place on Okinawa and the base
force units were ready to go and staff an airfield. Just lost a CVE at Amami. Not sure
the losses are worth it. If Okinawa can be supplied at a high level, I think drop tanks
are available. Might not need Amami.

I'm paying attention but all out combat reports are hard on the eyes. Some more strategic insight and tactical review make things more interesting. Also screenshots bring more taste to an AAR-- show some of those poor CVEs burning after the kamikaze attacks. [:D]

I should mention that I have not posted anything re: the usual sweeps and B29 raids
on Tokyo unless something unusual takes place.
I have started prepping units in Manila and SF for their projected targets in Japan.
Next time, I will give a detailed oob report and projected targets.

BTW, there has not been much comment , so if there is no interest or if the style

I'm following you Navman. I just fired up Downfall yesterday and still giving orders for my first move. This is really helpful on what to expect.

I'm curious how you are using the B29's. I've put them on night attack at 6000ft. Like I said I haven't done a turn yet so I don't know how they'll do.

Edit: I'm targeting Heavy Industry with the B29's. What did you decide to target?

JonReb: Sorry to be late in getting back with you. Been a little under the weather up here
in N. Idaho. Thx for the suggestions/comments. Yes, I thought my presentations might be
somewhat tedious, so I will be cutting back on the aar postings and giving more of a
commentary type of report. Can you advise how to post a shot of the map? I d/n
play w/combat animations on, so is there an alternative to using combat animations to
show ship dmg?

Grit: Thx for your comments. I started using B29s in the night attack role. I judged that
the enemy fighter response was not overwhelming. Therefore, I decided to switch to
day raids. The day prior to a raid, I sweep the target with P51s and P47s based
on Iwo, ranging in alt from 15k-20k, usually two(2) or three(3) groups. Next day, I send
all B29 groups that have morale in the 90s, in at an alt of 15k. I attack "manpower" in
order to start fires. The only exception has been one(1) attack on the turbojet engine
plant. The sweeps are very effective, with P51H and P47N aircraft. I actually prefer
the P47N to the Mustangs. Once Formosa is captured, I will use Lancs and B29s that have not yet been committed to strike the southern portion of Japan.
