I'd drop $80, no questions asked. This isn't a cheap McGame, folks. It's a classic. You'll probably be playing it for years, especially if you like to PBEM.

I spent far more than that on Fire in the East/Scorched Earth back in the day with no regrets. This is the computer replacement for that golden oldie from the boardgame days. I've been waiting years, decades even for something like this.

I would not mind paying $80 for a great game. The problem is that there are lots of games that I *hope* will be great, appear to be great, seem like they are a slam dunk, certain to be great, awesome buy...that I find I never play 6 months later, due to bugs, balance issues, or that are simply not nearly as fun as expected.

Frankly, *any* given game, statistically, is extremely unlikely to be one of the truly "greats" that will live on my drive for more than a few months. No matter how good they appear beforehand, odds are that it won't be a masterpiece.

So...what are people willing to pay for a game that *might* be great? Especially given that in this day and age, even if this game is going to be a masterpiece, that won't actually be realized for several months after it is released?

Hell, I cannot think of one single war or strategy game that was a masterpiece straight out of the box.

So, if they decide to charge a "premium" price on the basis that this is a game that is much better than XYZ games, they are going to have people who are going to wait and see if it really is that good. I would be one of them. If the game is $40-50, I will be likely to buy early, and take my chances. If you want me to shell out $80, that is fine, but I will wait and see what happens after a few months of patches, and whether the game is really as good as they say. For $80, I want a sure thing.

The theory is $80, costly.

Of course a lot of work has gone into it, but that is the case with most things.

My question is $80 (or there about's) for boxed version, or cheaper for digital download?

I don't think they could ask more than 59.99 ddl for this game.

They can ask whatever they like of course, but I would certainly pay a lot more than $59.99 for this game and still consider it a bargain.

Matrix will charge what Matrix will charge. It will be up to the individual to decide what they are willing to pay. Personally I think 80 bucks for this is a steal.

While $80 is high, it's still a bargain relative to competitors like Paradox who charge $40 for games that are initially hopelessly broken (HOI-3) and need endless patches and time to make it work "somewhat". And then pay a year later another $20 to $25 for expansions that seriously try to fix the game.

If it's "really" beta tested and works as claimed when shipped they've got me sold.

I can. CMBB is a superb game that required only a few tweaks after release. Sadly, they are few are far between though.

Fair enough - I can certainly agree with that - although one could argue that CMBB was not really a "new" game per se - lord knows CMBO needed a few tweaks after release (although I would claim that warts and all CMBO the day of release was clearly something very special).

Yeah, but this time it is for real. The amount of order of battle detail in the game is quite staggering. It's the first time I've ever seen a computer wargame really approach Fire in the East/Scorched Earth in terms of that kind of detail. And even exceed it, in some ways, as the state of the art in military history has advanced a fair bit since those days, particularly on the Soviet end.

My only concern, and it's not ultimately a deal killer for me, is the AI. But since I'm looking to do this by PBEM, shrug. They could ship it without an AI and I'd still buy it.

Considering some of the latest prices If this game comes in at under $90 not including shipping  I'll be happy and buy it on the first day

I think $60 is tops for a PC game in this market/economy, Matrix needs to start breaking up their big expensive games, ($55-$60 base game) then release a ($20-$25 for the game editor/ scenario expansion pack). This way, the price isn't a deal breaker at release, and if people like it, they will buy the add-on(s) later. I hope they do this with War in the East, so we don't see another $80 game! Nobody really needs an editor on day one of a new release with a large complex game anyway.

Hurry up! release WITE, so Gary and company can get started on War in the Med![:D]

I would be happy with $59.99 for ddl and $69.99 with physical delivery. If you get much more than that, it could become a tradeoff between $ and quantity sold.

Everything I have heard/read says that we still have an official unemployment rate of +/-10%, with an additional 7-9% underemployed/discouraged.  To paraphrase a well known political figure..."Its the economy stupid." [:D]

I think that selling game like this in one package is much more economical in the overall scheme of things. $60 for basic set then $25 for one expansion module and we are already at $85 for what should cost $80.  Sorry, I am for the one price - one package deal

you guys are something, the other forum, they are screaming and crying about the price of the game, and here you are almost giving them the green light to ask for the moon

but, so saying, the work that Jon and Andy and all of the others have done, not including the programmers, 80 bucks may be cheap

so, watch what you wish for, you may get it

I forgot. My bet for price, based on recent Matrix releases $100 for DDL.

I will be shocked to see this game on sale for less than $80. I'm saving already as I know its a game I have to save for.

That other game that you talk about it a hard sell for me. $80 for one battle that is broken down in 27 parts......Yes the editor, I know big deal....make that a RTS....no thanks. This game however is about a war that the history of mankind will never see again(thank goodness). Don't let anyone tell you otherwise, WW2 the eastern front was the war, without it the Germans wouldn't have lost and I guess that's why I would pay for this game. This just is my point of view.....

I would rather have it all up front day 1 as I dislike "needing" to buy expansions to get full enjoyment. I look forward to WITE and hope its price is under $100.00. But for WITE and MWIF I just want them to be finished, I'll fit them into my budget somehow.

It is all about delivering something that is worth it. With games like this one, or WITP/AE, or ARMA II for that matter (although more so for it enormous modding capabilities), you can easily get sucked in for 2-3 years without having to buy another title. For me, the effort you guys put into the AI might be the selling factor, beyond the other things. There will be things I will not like, such as the production and R&D that would be fun or a Europe map with other fronts, but the rest of the game so far looks very impressive. So if lots of good posts about the AI will pop here after you published, I will be in for sure.

Also you guys would surely win lots of long-term customers if you bugfix and add new content and functionality in future patches reliably. There are so many publishers that nowadays publish half-done games with brain-dead AI and incomplete features due to whatever reasons, on which I have wasted valuable $, that I am willing to pay more if I can be sure what I get is really well executed and contains the features I really care about.
