VNMC TF B attack on enemy forces at An Thai

VNMC TF B has suffered heavy losses in the attack on An Thai. The enemy force is revealed to be the 5th Battalion of the 12th Regiment of the PAVN (People's army of Vietnam). Half of the Marine force is lost in the assault on the heavily fortified village. More ARVN forces will need to be brought to An Thai to try and destroy this enemy battalion before it slips away.

Operation Dan Chi 129

The 21st ARVN Division have been given orders to start a search and destroy operation called Dan Chi 129 with its 33rd Regiment. Also assigned to this operation is the 42nd and 44th ARVN Ranger battalions. The operation began with a road clearing force that proceeded north from Quan Long but quickly encountered an enemy force in a heavily fortified area in a mangrove swamp south of Kien Long. The enemy force is believed to be a Viet Cong Local force Battalion. A fire support base (FSB) is quickly set up at Kien Long and several more regiments of the 21st ARVN Division are rushed into the area via helicopter to set up blocking positions. Elements of the 21st ARVN Divisions 31st and 32nd Regiment are sent in to help destroy the enemy unit. Two ARVN Battalions have been sent into the U Minh forest to see if there are any more VC Local forces near by. They have discovered what is believed to be the VC 3rd Regional HQ. The two ARVN battalions in the U Minh forest consist of two battalions of the 32nd ARVN Regiment of the 21st Division. Hopefully the ARVN forces in this Operation won't suffer the heavy losses that were encountered in Operation Quyet Thang 131. And just one final note in my pics of operations solid arrows represent ground travel and the dashed arrows represent helicopter or air travel if anybody was wondering [:)]

Operation Dan Chi 129 attack on the Swamp position

The attack on the fortified position in the Mangrove swamp (The northern most enemy unit in the last map) just southwest of Kien Long wasn't too bloody but the ARVN took more losses then the Viet Cong once again despite the fact that they outnumbered the enemy. The enemy unit in the swamp has been identified as the 10th Viet Cong Local force Battalion.

Operation Dan Chi 129 attack on the VC HQ in the U Minh Forest

The southern attack in the U Minh forest on the Viet Cong's Military Region 3 HQ was a very bloody battle. The VC suffered negligible losses in the battle while the ARVN 21st Divisions 32nd Regiments two battalions suffered heavy losses in the attack on the heavily fortified VC HQ. These units will have to wait until the 10 Viet Cong Local force Bn in the Mangrove swamp is cleared further north and the rest of the 21st ARVN Division's forces can join them in attempting to destroy the VC HQ if they don't escape.

Really, you're going to continue taking incredible losses unless you allocate disproportionate amounts of support to each assault.

21st ARVN Division attack on VC MR3 HQ in U Minh Forest

The forces of the 21st Division have begun the attack on the VC Military Region 3 HQ. For the first time in this campaign the VC have taken more losses then ARVN troops. Here's the combat summary.

They took a slightly higher percentage loss but since you were attacking with so many troops you probably lost more men.

Still if you can finish off a major HQ unit that is a coup.

I'm getting nervous about attacking again I don't want to lose the entire ARVN 21st Division that would be a disaster [;)]
