Total War: War in the Pacific?

Good way to make this game take ten years to play one game.

Only other game that would have been incredible if the tech and been up to it (but it wasn't) was the electronic battlefield of Spectrum Holobyte.  The electronic battle field would have been still in use today if it could have been worked out.

Mhh, was this the one that involved Falcon 4.0? I believe to remember that they tried to combine different weapons on a common battlefield like the F 16, A10 and ground troops like the M1. Maybe I just mix it up with the Multiplayer of Falcon 4.0 which was absolutely great but unfortunately a bit unstable...

It is so long ago, I had a 386/33 or 486/66 in those days and the LAN had to be set up completely manually using DOS 6.0

North Atlantic 86" until my poor old Apple II+ melted down.

My fondest memories of computer games came from those days. I can still remember chasing down the Yamato all the way to Truk and putting some 20+ torps into her before she finally sank. The buzzing sound of each torpedo hit still rings in my ears to this day.

Ketza, there was a time when you could find an Apple II emulator that would turn your expensive and fast PC into an archaic beast that could still run these old gems....[:D].

I have the original board game too plus the Coral Sea add on (and too many other AH's games to mention), but are you telling me that MIDWAY was turned into a PC game by AH? How ITH did I miss that? Where can I get it?

My sunday afternoon club has a member who currently subscribes to stratomatic football card update each year. We will form a league and play in the late fall.

I remember playing {and still have stored somewhere} Star Fleet Battles when it came in a small 36 page booklet with extremely fine print.  I had to get a job at a local game store when I was young in order to fund my hobby.  Saved more on the emplyee discount than I ever made working.

Oh! I nearly forgot the "Master of Orion" series. This one was also devastating to my GPA too!

PacWar singlehandedly dropped my GPA just enough to keep me from graduating with honors. Play 'til 0400, get up at 0600, drive to class. Oops, what did you say, Dr.???

I also remember my longest standing friend and I imbibing, and managing to empty a fifth of Turkey 101 playing WSIM until the wee hours.

I'll never forget the day I finally convinced my dad to play AH Midway against me when I was 10. He promptly kicked my ass red and asked "Do you want to play anything else?" And went about his business.

The answer was obviously "No". lol

Back when Falcon 3.0 was big I remember networks of up to 16 computers used by pilots when they were deployed to play Falcon 3.0 as a squadron. The ability to fly and fight as a team was awesome. When you looked at Spectrum Holobytes long term plans. releasing a flight sim for different aircraft, tank sims, ship sims, AAA/Sam sims all linked on a virtual battle field. The idea of a complete strike package made up of human players flying a mission against human defenders and targets was too cool. I had the F-16, A-10 and Mig-29 simulators played them all quite a bit. Back in the day they were very popular in the Air Force. I was hoping for a 15c/d or vark sim but really enjoyed the vacuum and hog sims while waiting.

Feinder and I played it for several years. Its still out there right now. Not sure how many players are on it, but they have a 2 week trial run if anyone is interested.

It was almost a great game; I loved it and would play again in a heartbeat. There were a lot of issues, but the biggest for me was the lack of player density. I played armor and infantry almost exclusively and the fighting always seemed to break down into guarding an outpost for hours with no activity, fighting off endless allied air attacks on a forward base, or camping an infantry spawn lol

I lucked out; I didn't really start getting into wargames until I was nearly out of high school, when I talked my dad into buying Panzer Leader.  That was the rock that started the avalanche; after that it was Panzer Blitz, 3rd Reich, Jutland, Squad Leader (plus all the modules!!), Victory in the Pacific, Midway, etc.  When the computer games started showing up in the 80's I grabbed anything naval oriented; Battlecruiser, Warship, Bismarck, Carrier War, PacWar, etc, etc, etc...
