Playing the AI is still fun and challenging. A human player will whine and demand house rules.

Playing a few turns a day (PBEM or AI) is actually fun. Not playing and thinking about what will happen the next few days is actually the fun part.
If you play too much in a day, you'll get burned out and brian dead.
Taking it easy will also give you enought time for family and other games.
You mean you cheat on AE?

Yes I play with her other sisters... UV and WITP. (^_-)

the AI is good enough to give a fun game. Sometimes very sneaky. Occasionally rather stupid. Other threads have discussed the AI in depth, but quick answer: yes, it is challenging enough to be fun.
Although....i've never played vs the Allied AI. I always play as Allies v Japan. i suspect more work has gone into the Jap AI than Allied.
Zachary and I started a PBEM in late August 2009. We play two day turns and the game ended in late 44 with the complete destruction of all Japanese Naval and air forces. We are now into April 42 and getting in one to two turns a day.Hello all, I'm considering this game, but concerned that I just won't have the time needed. How long (in terms of hours) would you estimate that it takes you to play a year of the war?

here's a little empirical data on how long it takes to play a year as the allies against the ai. i just finished my second campaign game and each game took about 2 1/2 months, and each ended in an auto victory in late 1945. a little quick math says that it took me about 20 days to complete a years worth of campaigning. not too bad.
of course, during each of these games, i never mowed the lawn, walked the dog, or washed the car, and i fell behind in projects at work, forgot about happy hours, strained relations with girlfriends, etc, etc. but was it worth it? hell yea, i sunk all 16 ijn cv's!!

Playing almost exclusively against the AI, I find I can manage a couple days worth of game turns each day during the work week and a week or two on the weekend without feeling rushed to get through the turns. Your mileage my vary. [:D]
