I think I have isolated why the problem exists..at least I can replicate it.
When I click on a unit/stack of units, the game thinks about stuff. During that time, if I click somewhere else, it makes the click noise, but doesnt register the click event.
It may not happen with the first stack or three..but sooner or later, when I click on something I will get that delay. Afterwards, if I just click on the map hexes around, I get the instant response.
Actually, it seems to happen more with stacks then single units..
That happens to me too. Quite a few times it takes more than one mouse click to get the mouses "attention" when I move from one stack to the next. It seems as thought the problem disappears when I deselect unit(s) on the side bar and then select another unit. If on the other hand, I try to select another stack without first deselecting it takes an additional mouse click or two to do select what I wanted.
Now that I think about it and see the concerns posted here, It appears to be something more than me being new to the game and doing something wrong/incorrectly.

Hi Baelfiin,
Keep in mind that your experience does not mirror that of the vast majority of users. These mouse issues are affecting a minority and we already had a beta fix available within two days of the first reports.

Maybe it seems like I'm criticising the whole game. Please don't take it that way. There is so much good stuff going on in the game that I find it frustrating that something basic like being able to select a unit is a chore. If there is some list to be on to get beta patches please put me on it. I listed what I had to do to get things to work better for me. Maybe we can work together to find a solution. I'm willing to bet that there are more folks out there that are having the same type of problem but just haven't posted about it.

Just e-mail me at
erikr@matrixgames.com and I'll send you the beta exe for your testing. Please note this is a test exe, not an official update.

We're working on the mouse problem, and it seems as though we have a good fix for it. Erik's had at least 3 customers test the fix and it worked for them. We should have an official patch out to the public within the next few weeks fixing this problem. In addition, Pavel appears to be making good progress on dealing with the CPU being maxed out, and this could help the performance of the lower end computers. We're sorry that some of you are experiencing these problems and we're working to resolve them as soon as possible.

I have the same issue. At first, I thought there must be some application interfering with WITE but the problem has continued until now in spite of closing everything and rebooting, and such.
Erik, I will email you, I'd like to check out if this beta .exe will improve things.

Erik, I've had the problem since I started testing, so it isn't a new issue. What is new is that the cause could seemingly be pinpointed and that the issue can hopefully be fixed.
Baelfiin: sometimes, things can't be fixed until the cause is found, and as the programmers were all extremely busy during the design process, the fix could not be made until now.

Hi guys,
We have a newer exe that addresses pretty much all the reported performance issues, including the mouse, CPU usage and black screen. It should be a big help for slower systems. We're planning to post it as a public beta tomorrow.

- Erik

I have found that mouseclick -problem disappears when playing in the default window size. In full screen window (1920x1200) the game is sluggish, almost unplayable. Using slow click technique as described above helps, but interestingly it doesn't help to move the mouse over hex and wait a few seconds and then fast click. I guess the GUI thread is somehow busy (maybe not in CPU, but in GPU) , even though nothing seems to be updated in the screen (maybe the screen is still repainted too frequently, causing slugginesh)
Also, when click doesn't cause the expected action, the mouse click sound is still heard. This indicates that the actual click is noticed by the application, but if GUI is busy doing something it forgets to do the actual action.
GUI slugginesh affects everything including menu response time, scrolling, etc. I highlighted the weird thing because no change/animation is visible in the game screen but even menu is still slow. Setting graphics to low quality and sounds off doesn't help at all. Only small window size helps.
This is the single most frustrating problem, and so far the only technical issue I have encountered.
I've not tested it extensively, but I also feel that with smaller window size, everything works a bit better. [&:]

Some effect could have high CPU usage due to redraw bug in map mode.

With about one hour of testing on my part, the mouse fix seems to be working thus far. Up to that point it was a minor annoyance, but the improvement is now very noticeable.

Ive got the same slow mouse response probems as you guys. A slower click, two clicks, or click and hold seems to help. Scrolling could also be better. Hope a working patch is downloadable soon. Great game otherwise.

You can try adjusting the scroll speed in the preference screen to get a better scroll.

Does the beta parch definitely solve the slow clicking issue?
Had the same problem with WitP and it restrains me from buying WitE [:(]

Erik,
Is this fix the same as was sent out yesterday to folks or does it contain more changes than that?
