I downloaded this large game guide (
http://www.wargamer.com/forums/tm.aspx? ... f+download), it is 321 pages. Check out the video I just made...

It comes down to preference I guess 10 inch vs 7 inch tho I prefer the more compact form factor of the Nook Color.
If you wanna know anything else about the Nook Color just let me know

Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 wifi is really neat. Although the Verizon 4g version might really be cool to have.

Just to jump in here guys my wife and I both have iPads and I wouldn't trade them for the world. I can read my books, comics etc no issues at all. I would say stick with the Wifi only version. I never use anything else.
David
Can you download the Kindle Reader on the ipad?

JefferyH,
I was consdiering a Galaxy Tab 10.1 or whatever the new one is.
Thread got brought back to life by a spammer. I hate that when it happens.
Still hoping for a DX Kindle in color, or a Nook the same size. I have the new Nook touch screen eink version, and love it.

I have a Toshiba Thrive 10 inch.. got EZ PDF Reader and I love reading manuals on it.. page swipe works.. always goes back to the last page you were on when you re-open files.. Kindle software works great on it too..
I also have the smaller Kindle, and I still love that as well.. but only for reading books.. Reading PDF's it is too small and to slow.. For reading books it is easy on the eyes.. Can be read in sunlight.. very light.. and a just an all around great product for what it does..

Waiting on my Kindle Fire to arrive, then this thread will need to be replaced with a new thread about new comparisons to make!
Actually, the cost of e-readers is now so low ($79 for one of the new Kindles) that they are really an impulse buy for many. In addition, I don't think the differences are necessarily that significant to prompt an "oh no, why did I buy this one" moment. Most people seem to be quite pleased with any of the current e-readers.
The only really significant issue for me would be the "read in the sun" capability of e-ink vs LCD or LED displays. I do, in fact, take my Kindle out into the sun to read at times, I doubt that I will do that with the Fire tablet.

I own the DX.
You want the DX if:
1) you primarily use your device to like "read" (vs. play Angry Birds and/or surf the Internet)
2) you primarily read actual books (vs. color magazines.)
3) you have eye strain. (eInk is easy on the eyes like real paper......Nook/FIRE/Ipad are LCD computer screens.....if you already stare all day at one for work.....an eInk device will be your friend)
4) It is better in bright sunlight or other bright areas.
5) your used to reading Hardcover books and/or text books. At 9.7" display size + case it basically reads/carries like one
6) you like to highlight/take notes. DX has a QWERTY keyboard and easy navigational joystick. Touchpads are not IMO as good here and smudge the screen.
7) If #6 describes you, you want eInk because this DRAINS your battery like nothing. Kindle eInk devices advertise 2-4 week battery lifes vs. LCD devices which advertise 5-8 hours of batt life per charge. Me....I drain my Kindle DX battery in 2-3 days easily because of the notetaking/highlighting. I can imagine were I doing this with a Nook or Ipad....i'd be charging it every 2-4 hours.
If you want to combine laptop/reader features and want to read graphic novels and such, you'll want an LCD device. Which one to buy is a matter of taste. I was not impressed by the Nook. Ipad is fun but pricy and requires a data plan. Havn't played with Fire. From my experiences with the DX the Kindle is a solid product....is well supported by Amazon cust care and the Amazon library is very well stocked.

Amazon has their act together... web site design, service, PRIME free shipping, support for "free" e-books converted by volunteers and sold on Amazon for $0.00, good selection... just generally a virtual behemoth of the book seller industry (and now moving into doing their own publishing by courting authors to bypass traditional publishing houses). This is all good.
Someday, I'll probably be rebelling against them for their total domination of the medium [:'(] but for now... love 'em! [&o]
Never got attached to Borders or Barnes & Noble in the same way.
When buying an e-reader, the supporting company makes all the difference and, like them or not, Amazon dominates right now.

I'm just waiting for the DX to drop a little more in price. I'm happy with my new nook eink.
I will bet it won't be long before eink technology comes in color.

Generally, I dislike Amazon for not randomly selling random stuff to some countries. I prefer using eBay and AbeBooks. And other booksellers start catching up with free shipping and actually ship for free to more countries than Amazon.

Agree. I love my Kindle! Also, you can send them your game manuals and they convert them to Kindle format for free.
I have the original B&N Nook and you can convert your manuals as well....I do not think I'll bother with either color version as I'm quite satisfied with the Nook I already have....If I am going to make an investment into anything that has color, it will be an iPad or comparative tablet such as the B&N tablet that the previous poster noted.

Agree with above.. it is best to have both the E-ink and the color types of readers.. E-ink (Kindle) is very easy on the eyes, can be read in the sun, and is very light... The Color Andriod/Ipad readers are best for PDFs... E-Inks are so inexpensive, it's worth getting both..

Basically double the memory, double the storage, and they added a microSD slot vs the Kindle Fire for $50 more. Good move on their part... now it depends on how important these enhancements are to you in a practical way. When I get my Fire next week, I'll see whether any of this makes any difference to me. I really don't expect any of it to be significance to my anticipated usage. Kinda like not caring that NEITHER of them have a camera onboard.
