Ok well after using some of these igame for a while now I came across a problem. Because X3 is mainly combat based it is choc full of fighter craft. Once you scrap all the excess ones you are left with having to use quite a few military craft to fill the role of DW civilian fleet, as DW doesn't yet have that many military roles.

When I look at the total ships for these in X3 you kinda get a blurry view between military and civilian craft. A perfect example was the frigate craft could almost be mistaken for a passenger ship or such. Many of them just didn't scream "I HAVE GUNS."

With this in mind I'm thinking of taking a slightly different route, my civil craft will keep the lighter clean looks of current with smoother styles. While military craft will get beefed up somewhat taking a darker colour scheme. So is an example of first the current frigate and second what I think I may use as it's replacement.





What do you all think about this method, too confusing seeing two different types along with alien craft, or a nice easy way to spot your gunships?

Now that you've warned us it sounds nice and easy, wandering how it will look like with the dozens of ships in a regular DW game. I don't think I'll have a problem with it and anyone who uses them will see your warning anyway so thumbs up.

I don't think every race will have only one ship builder. There are bound to be differences between civilian and military ships. Just look at any modern nations navy compared to it's merchant navy and holiday cruise ships.

If that's how the Terrans operate then that's cool. I've never believed it's set in stone that all ships have to get the same paint job either. Have fun with it there are no rules except the ones you make for yourself.

Well taking into account now two mini set within the one set heres the first bunch of the military craft. From top to bottom they are, escort, frigate, destroyer, cruiser, capital.











So far they stay on a similar theme to the original ones, only with a more aggressive military feel.

In X3 lore, the "menacing" versions are the ATF fleet which is an independent fleet from the main terran fleet designed to combat the Terraformers (AI fleet turn bad).

They look ... meh.... (note that the cooler looking ones at the bottom starting with "deca" are NOT strictly terran. They are Terraformer ships)

The ATF ships on the other hand, are quite impressive, esp their fighters. (link) Will definitely be hooked if someone come up with a shipset for this.

Last but not least, the Argon are the Terran's cousins who were cut off from home a long time ago and had developed their own style:
