I'd be in for the STAVKA role or another Soviet role, but preferably STAVKA.

Done. (I am assigning roles in the order that people request them).

I'll take the Baltic front if you like.
To be honest, I'm not sure that this is going to work without some help from the devs, but I'd like to have a go anyway.
I do hope the devs can improve the multiplayer aspect of the game. The most important thing would be for the game to have it's own server. That might be very expensive, I don't know.Perhaps there wouldn't be enough demand to warrant it.Does anyone know anything about that sort of thing?

I got a PM earlier from 821Bobo requesting that, so am assigning you to Western Front.

Let's ask Big Anorak (STAVKA) if he has a role for you. Maybe Crimea or elsewhere after a few turns?

I see more people have also posted in the other thread, so there are now more sign-ups than commands to take.

OK, thanks - I will suggest to them that they start a parallel game.

Since all slots are full (I didn't have time to do much searching; posting from work atm) I'm taking back my application and will be a follower of the AAR threads.

I expect that there will be opportunities to get involved as the game progresses...

Will the AG and front leaders have an AP allowance too, or will all leader changes, corps and army OOB changes and reserve handling done by OKH/STAVKA?

I guess that's up to the STAVKA/OKH players. They can either take the decisions and tell their subordinates what has been done, or they could allocate some AP each turn to each subordinate. It will probably evolve to be a mix of both approaches, with some amusing errors and lots of politics mixed in for a laugh!

House Rules discussion:

If everyone is running 1.03.4 with the reduced strategic bombing damage, then I am not sure any house rules are needed except for use of amphibious invasions and para drops?

Opsec:

I propose that no public AAR is reported until 4 turns have been completed.

I have 1.03.4. What do you propose as rules for those two topics?

I'd still be in favour of a no strategic bombing houserule. With the increase in factory movement costs, the Axis putting a factory like the T-34 factory out of production, or preventing it from expanding is still too much of a burden. I do have to say that I haven't tested the strategic bombing changes, so maybe it's not too bad. Still, 1% damage prevents expansion, and the Romanians can bomb Kharkov on turn 1.

In return, I promise not to cheese the Luftwaffe out of existence by bombing your air bases at least until AA does something and CAP is not the "no effect or more or less complete nullifier" it is now. Currently, even 300 AA guns don't necessarily shoot anything down or prevent damage. The interdiction losses I'm taking for an attack on a hex with a good AA concentration are usually quite significant, even if a lot of AA is present, and AA doesn't shoot down much in ground battles either it seems.

STAVKA would be me.

I'd say there's room for him to take over Southern Front from Smokindave34 after a few turns/after the front widens. Southwest Front and the reserves coming up from the Caucasus should be enough to keep Smokindave34 busy after a few turns.

It can all be discussed in the Soviet AAR thread.

I don't really see why we shouldn't create a public AAR at the start, I mean: all that's "keeping" our opponents in ongoing games out of our AAR's is a "no *player name* " in the title or first post, so what would the difference be between such a game and this?

Agreed on Strategic bombing.

Re: airfields. I will run manual on T1, the AI only thereafter.

Re amphib: we will keep Constanta garrisoned, but suggest no amphib invasions west of x93 until 1943.

Re: Para drops: No drops on urban/factory locations, but adjacent is ok.

The Black Sea fleet's long range amphibious capabilities are rather overpowered currently, I think we can agree to no amphibious invasions in Romania at the least until Soviet troops reach Bessarabia again, as well as a houserule against amphibious invasions that are so far removed from a port that the Black Sea fleet would have had absolutely no means to support it (say, no landings if a port can't realistically be captured the turn after the landing). In general, no amphibious invasions west of the Crimea until Sevastopol is recaptured, should it be captured. I'd also agree to a limitation in the size of the forces that are landed, say two divisions a turn or one mobile corps each turn.

Maybe nuance the no paradroops on urban locatios to no paradrops on hostile urban locations, for friendly locations we'll just assume the units are airlifted in to some open space or a highway in the area. I don't think we'll need that rule, but still.

I'll micromanage the VVS to a certain extent.

Sounds like it could be a cracker

Looking forward to the checkerboard meets Linebacker defence at the Front boundaries![;)]

Yes, front and army group boundaries are going to need special attention from the CinC before the turn starts.I expect they will become targets.

The 8 or 9 different playstyles will also be interesting to see.

I think I'll create the Soviet thread now, although I won't post screenshots until turn 5 if that's required for some reason. I don't really see the problem with starting an AAR like normal. We should be able to trust the entire other team not to peak in the AAR that's not for their side.

I would have thought that your AAR policy is yours to determine as the Soviets... I can't imagine any of us peeking.

Look forward to this, not to be polemic but a pity the team play aspect was not integrated into the game.
