I don't think that "Leningrad is the true center". In my opinion, considering it the primary target of Barbarossa is conceding the war to the Soviet before it begins. It is certainly an important secondary objective (especially from a winter 41 point of view), but secondary none the less.

Just my 2 cents here.  I haven't played WITE yet.  I have it ordered and can't wait to get it.

I used to play Avalon Hill's Russian Campaign back in my younger days.  I think I wore out the map pushing little cardboard pieces all around it.

I discovered that throwing all the extra armor you could spare at Lenningrad worked better than other strategies.  It freed up the Finns.  And freed up ANG's armor for use against Moscow.  I would leave the Finns and ANG infantry to hold Lenningrad and go for Archangel.  Then with ANG's armor coming in from the west you could take Moscow easier.  Then leaving AGC's infantry to hold the Moscow area, I could throw ANG's and ANC's armor to the east.  From there it was just a matter of rolling up the line.

I tried the German strategy of pushing in all three directions at once.  That never seemed to work.  I tried a south first strategy.  That never worked.  The AGS area is just to vast to take.  As the Germans found out the hard way.

I know Russian Campaign is a different type of game from WITE.  But I think the strategies would work the same in either game.

Id like to know if anyone can take lennigrad in a pbem vs a good soviet player in road to lenningrad-where the german player is not benefited with the option of loading up AGN with goodies from AGC...german player is stuck with just AGN
and phil you talking about archangel...[:)] what are you smoking?  You talking about leaving the finns and ang to hold lennigrad, I dont think but 2 people have taken lenningrad playing against another person since the game came out

Interesting, I played SPI's War in the East in my younger days as well as SPI's War in Europe. :-)

Personally I am a believer in take Leningrad first then Moscow.

I can think of a few. It seems to be a reasonably common occurrence since the swamp bug was fixed.
