The volcanos at Rabaul are due. I believe they are constanly under some sort of warning. The Solomon's also seem to be due. Hope not though.

Scary and yet compelling footage coming out of Japan, my thoughts go out all people living in the affect area.
Just image if this happened during WW2, fighting a major war and massive natural disasters.

My heart and prayers are with Japan today. The footage is absolutely dreadful and leaves me feeling sick. Feels like the world is going to explode soon with everything that's been going on, time for good people to lean on each other.

Not sure if you guys are aware of this page:
http://earthquake.usgs.gov/earthquakes/recenteqsww/Quakes/quakes_all.html
The number, strength, and dispersion of the aftershocks they are seeing is just amazing to me. I am not saying this is anything weird or that anything strange is going on. I am sure this is par for the course with such an enormously strong quake. When you look at the list and realize that any one of the many dozens of the big aftershocks would be considered strong or very strong quakes in most other places, it is quite humbling.

Recently news tells deaths and unknown toll rises estimated over one thousand,

Look at all the preshocks on the 9th and 10th in the same region. There were 15 quakes over 5.0 on the 9th, including one over 7. 10th was very active too.
It is amazing to me that a 7.1 quake is, in retrospect, a preshock. Likely there will be advancement of scientific knowledge but at a very high human cost.

People can be so stupid seriously, I am reading
www.fark.com and the Japan Thread is turning ever so political
every moment. At these times even my grandfather (who in my opinion is horribly against Japan/Russia) doesn't care about Pearl Harbor, were busy right now trying to pool some money to ship to a Japanese red cross, bad as the economy is I can't afford losing a paycheck but I happily gave up mine for the 2 weeks because I know that little money might help someone the very least.

There are idiots in every country. Sadly.
Though we should not forget how huge facebook is. Since stupidity and lack of personal ethics is nothing which prevents you from creating
a facebook account, there will always be things like that to read. Thats a statistical neccessity. [:(]
Hang on Japan!
I might add that I am totally in awe of how this country reacts to such a crisis. This is why I am beyond doubt that you will overcome
this crisis.

A satellite vendor has made updated (some just an hour ago) images of Japan available via a Google Maps page. You click on the marker where you want to see the high-resolution imagry. Here is the link:
http://maps.google.com/maps/ms?ie=UTF8&hl=en&msa=0&msid=200910826786863242067.00049e4d08c67e68fe83e&ll=38.272689,140.756836&spn=22.232593,53.569336&t=h&z=5
And here is a sample right on the on the coast in Sendai. Only a few houses remain standing after the tsunami. I think most of what we see here are the foundations.

It doesnt surprise me ifyou look at the faces of these people most of them look under forty and most of them look like retarded monkees so more than likely the only thing they know about pearl harbor is from watching the movie Pearl Harbor cause if they had actually studied books or authentic studying on the internet they would know that We gave japan plenty of payback for Pearl Harbor we reduced a great nation to shambles! so dont hate them feel sorry for them they dont know any better!!!!!

Those overhead views of wiped out towns and virtually nothing left but roads and streams remind me of some historic pictures of Japan from about 65 years ago.
There is an amazing and admirable degree of organization, stoicism and national cohesion in the response.
I have to believe from the pictures vs casualty figures that the short tsunami warning worked in most places. Either people got to a multistory sound buidling or they got in their Toyota and drove like hell.

Thanks for posting - yes very clever the way they have done this. As I look at the pictures on the news and wherever, the one question that keeps coming back is; where the hell do they even start the clean-up operation?
Did you see this morning they found a guy
nine miles out to sea clinging to the roof of what was once his house?
