'cancelled/abandonded' ?? Not going to happen !! We could use a map archive, but all the different scales make it kind of crazy.

... half week turns on 5 km maps? I can understand your concern.

Yeah, one day turns makes September '44 to May '45 = 231 turns, and Inf units mp = 6-7, Mot units mp = 12-14. I like this because of the IGO/UGO system, everything is slow to develop. But ... it could be too annoying to play, so it might have to go to half week turns. Can't wait to play a couple turns to see what it is like.

Here's a shot of the map curtesy of Rick (TPOO) the great map maker. Its 5km, regiment/KG/RCT units, day turns I hope but might have to make it half week.

At start, North Flank- The battalions of the US 4th Infantry Division have just arrived at the Seigfreid Line to find it occupied by the 12SS Pz Div.

South Flank - the US 30th Infantry Division has met the German 5th Fallschirmjager Division in the fortified positions at the Saur River.

Center - since the US 5th Armored Division moved thru the undefended Wallendorf area on the 13th of September, it has been pushing to the north and northeast in order to expand the bridgehead. The US 1st Infantry Division (motorised) and 2nd Armored Divisions have just arrived. The 5th AD will attempt to break thru the German line with the assistance of the 1st Inf, and this will allow the 2nd AD to race up the road to Koblenz.

Turn 5 - I've chosen to drop the bulk of all three Airborne Divisions at Koblenz. Hopefully this will ensure the securing of that area and the bridges. I have faith in the ground forces ability to reach them and secure the ground corridor.

The US 82 and 101st Airborne Divisions have landed on the east side of Koblenz and attacked to secure the Pfaffendorfer Brucke and Sudbrucke. The Germans blew the Sudbrucke but the 82nd has captured the Pfaffendorfer Bridge.

The British 1st Airborne has landed north, west and south of Koblenz. Their task was to clear out the area of Koblenz west of the Rhine, and to capture the two bridges over the Mosel River. The Germans have blown the Mosel Brucke, but the British have captured the other one (I can't find what the name of this bridge was in 1944, if anyone knows, I can add it to the map).

EDIT: Someone was kind enough to forward the bridge info to me. The one in question was called the Adolph Hitler Bridge in 1944, so no wonder I could find no mention of it. Although this thread is old, I wanted to update this info so that if anyone else ever comes across this, they won't go looking for the bridge name.

At the northern part of the map there are other bridges over the Rhine, and part of the 1st AB has been tasked with blocking German units coming from that direction. As long as the Koblenz bridges are held the northern bridges aren't important, so the British will opt to blow them and fall back (as lead elements of the 9SS Pz Div have shown up).

The 2nd Airdrop has put the Glider Regiments of the 101st AB along the Mosel River in order to block any German attempts to enter the area from the south. The Mosel River provides a nice security screen for the entire southern flank, something that the historical Market-Garden drop didn't have.

Back at the ground forces front line, the 5th AD has punched a hole in the German line, and with the assistance of the 1st ID is widening the breach. The important road center at Bitburg has been reached. The 2nd AD is stretched out for miles in a snarling traffic jam.

Turn 10 - The German line has been blown open and the 2nd AD races up the road ! Additional tank and artillery battalions follow closely behind, they are tasked with joining the airborne forces in order to give them direct support.

The left shoulder of the salient is attacked by Kampfgruppes from the 2nd Panzer Division and 108th Panzer Brigade. The 5th AD fends them off and the US 29th Infantry Division has just arrived to offer assistance. US XIX Corp Artillery and Cavalry assets are also in the area.

Day 5 at Koblenz - the airborne perimeter is secure, but the British are under attack from the German Infantry Division Nr.180, and the Americans are being attacked by the 9SS and 10SS Panzer Divisions. The Polish Airborne Brigade has arrived to assist the British in securing the northern flank.

2nd AD has passed the halfway point to Koblenz, but has come under attack by KG's that have moved back from the Seigfreid Line in an attempt to block them.

Back at the right shoulder of the salient, the US 30th ID is pushing back elements of the German 5th FJ and 19th Grenadier Divisions. Elements of the 5th AD are still assisting, and the US 116th Regimental Combat Team (29th ID) has arrived to join the effort.

Turn 15 - In the far south, the US 83rd ID has arrived and is tasked with advancing up the left bank of the Mosel River in order to reach the glider troops. 30th ID continues to push back the German 5th FJD.

The US 2nd ID has arrived at the northern flank to assist the 28th ID. Some German units have moved east to interdict the road to Koblenz but have left rearguards to block the Allied advance.

Turn 20 - As German resistance at the front crumbles, elements of 5th AD are free to head up the road to Koblenz while 1st and 29th ID's fan out to secure the area.

Turn 25 - As the Airborne forces continue to hold, the ground elements struggle to break thru to the perimeter. The British 8th Armored Brigade is joined by the US 712th Tank Battalion in all out effort to reach the paratroopers. The 1st SS Leibstandarte Adolf Hitler Division is causing severe problems.

Turn 30 - The three Airborne Divisions in the Koblenz area have done a splendid job at holding their gains. The Glider troops have likewise prevented any German interference from the south. The ground forces have finally managed to thread a break in the German line to reach the paras.
