You're doing pretty well without cheating, let me tell you.

Agreed - I bought it as well, despite being very unimpressed with the 1st version a while back. This looks a lot better, though the lack of a comprehensive manual is going to really hurt their ability to reach out to a new pool of players; I hope that gets fixed soon. I'm definitely hitting some things that confuse the heck out of me, but the depth of the game is great, and I'm interested enough to keep chewing on it until I feel like I can play it properly.
If only I could stop going broke. Time to read up on the FAQs and other resources. [:'(]

I find the trick is to set as much of your cities to "fluff" production (textiles or goods or appliances)as possible while nursing a few cities at a time untill you get enough of a bankroll to build things. always finding that I cannot build much at the same time as the economy will go belly up quick as hell. It's Hard to build up while fighting a war. I think the next game I will be better off to stay neutral as long as possible to build up the factories and economy level as far as possible. I wonder why there is no tax rate in the game to subsidize the economy a bit more.....hmm?[&:]

Good advice. I'm finding economic meltdown to be all too easy.

I know! Build build build your factories and research buildings for as long as you can and make sure to build up your territories to max coal, metal, food production and the only way to do it fast is to stay out of wars. You don't need to build large ammounts of troops and arms that way. I think making vehicle plants in all your cites is a priority since making autos have the best payoff in money for you. Meaning less of your cities overall to support your upkeep and economy.
