Well I know there is a way to have huge amounts of grass with little or no FPS hit, I know this isn't fair but take a look at the Total War games, especially the latest ones. Huge grass and no fps hit.

Total War games have massive budgets and teams. We are 5-6 guys that did a massive, free update in their spare hours. We did this to make a niche wargame (with a pre-existing code base). So no the comparison is another universe from fair. As we said, it will be looked at for patching.
Didn't you say you were getting 50 fps with the grass on? How many looks smooth to you when you play the game?

Oh I know it was not fair to compare, just more a proof of concept statement. When I turn LOD down to High I can hover around 30 fps with grass on and around 60 or more with it off. With LOD at ultra it goes down to the low 20s.

I understand. What would be the baseline that it seems to get choppy for you- around 30fps?

Yeah it gets noticeably sluggish and laggy at below 30 fps and improves as the fps rise closer to 60 where it is perfect.

You know overall the game on that map runs sluggish actually. Got around to playing a view turns in and even on my system with grass off the fps are much lower and laggy than I would expect. Something is definitely up. I have a feeling once the game gets out there many people are going to experience this. I got fps in 20s when the turn actually executed the animations. This is with grass off and LOD at High. No AA and only 4x AF.
