Flying Buccaneers-The illustrated History of Kenneys Fifth Air Force by Steve Birdsall.
This is a excellent book just reread it after 10 yrs. tells the history from the time Kenney gets to Australia through the end of War!!
Birdsall wrote another book called Saga of The Superfortress bought to start on this one havent read in a good 15 yrs!!!

Anyone read Pacific Air yet. Was thumbing through it at the book store and it looked interesting.

Two more, one very easy to get free. First "Two Block Fox", which is a history of the development of US carrier aviation before the war. You acn only get it used. The second is Wildenberg's history of US UNREP and Naval tanker fleet from origins to post-war. It is titled "Gray Steel and Black Oil". You can find it and many other interesting works on the HyperWar website (www.ibiblio.org/hyperwar).

I found the "Yamamoto: The Reluctant Admiral" very interesting even though I'm an Allied Fan boy.
I recently finished "Lost in Shangri-La" in Kindle edition. It's the reason I came back to WitP AE. It's not about war, but about the Pacific backstage, I really enjoyed it.
"Crisis in the Pacific" by Gerald Astor, very detailed and very close to WitP subject.
You have probably already read "Flyboys", if not, also a very good book on the topic.

Just by coincidence I'm currently reading that and halfway through it. Good stuff. I'm at the part where the Lt. in charge of the paratroopers is impatient to get the plane survivors back to base. It's like something out of a movie.

Yep, it's very good.
I have a friend who loves going to "difficult" places, he told me that that valley is still one of the most uncomfortable places he knows: gib bugs, snakes, humid, rain, ...

I hear ya. Maybe 25 years ago I would like to experience going there but now my local Barnes and Noble is adventure enough. [:D]

I cannot even try to imagine what it must have been like.
Crawling for miles and days, burnt, with a concussion, no water ... unbelievable! [X(]
