That´s the question!
Ahhh....not really - All of the Sub Operations are in One hand, all of the backyard duties are in one hand..........but in the DEI/PI/Malaya it will be a joint operation for the first few weeks (hopefully months in that area)

We have made a bunch of Warplans with 100s of pre-planed Operations for nearly everything [X(], and during our discussions we saw that undercovergeek is the ever opptimistic go-for-it-all type(before this PBEM he only played the Japanese side - and he really believes the Jap Fan Boy propaganda of the allmighty Allied forces!).
This provided me with lots of INTEL about the Japanese thinking (I am more or less a pure Allied player in Witp AE), and we were able to think....and even test a few nasty surprises for the Japs!

Well, that didnt quite go as expected!!

Turn 1 is in, Pearl is untouched, Battleship Row still there, Swift and I's carefully laid out plans for intercepting the KB lying in ruins!!

Of the 3 KBs - the 2 main ones appear to be off North East Borneo and they have flattened Manilla's port along with the usual Formosa attacks. The other appears to be stood off Hong Kong and has sunk a number of transports there.

Other than the presence of the KBs here no real surprises occurred - Kota Bharu invaded, Georgetown squashed. The highlight of the turn was Swift's departing DDs from Hong Kong intercepting 5 TKs and 3 APs - the report shows none sunk but all heavily damaged - but this does lead me to one thought - this was the first attack of the war! Without a Pearl attack to open proceedings the first shots in anger were allied - did we start the war in the Pacific?

Our plans continue - all availble infantry is being flown into Palembang, and now its turn 2 ships will also start bringing in the troops - the presence of the KBs clearly demonstrate our opponents desire to get the DEI secure and sealed ASAP - we'll have to see about that.

And now that the Pacific is empty of flat tops i can appeal to Swift to let us try and take some islands from the Japanese!!! For me personally as a JFB i know how fragile and vastly important the resources are around the Home Islands, my plan would be to move through the Kuriles or just head straight there (!) to the unoccupied Japanese islands that would put us in striking distance of Sakhalin and attack the shipping there, and then some islands near Kwajelein, and then reoccupy Malaya, and then, and then, and...............

I would try to get the Pioneer/Engineer unit at Singapore over to Palembang to start digging in.

I like to send 3 or 4 PBY groups from Pearl over to the SRA. They can be used to both conduct Naval Search and/or transport troops. 2 PBYs end up in India eventually (usually for me, its the ones from Manila) as India is short on search planes and those little 6 planes Catalina are not enough.

Upgrade most of your Dutch FPs to PBY-5s. They will be very useful. [;)]

I always place one of those 18 plane Marine fighter groups on each of my American CVs. You can never have enough fighters on them. [:D]

Turn 2 done and replay watched - the immense amount of work on turn two has been completed with all the compulsory management taking place.

Troops and ships are gathering at Kodiak before sailing out to build Adak - the first step on the ladder of the destruction of Sakhalin. The BBs are heading home from Pearl to be upgraded.

All the action is focused on Malaya, Borneo and the PI. Landings have occurred at Kuching, and i suspect this will be built up to a large airfield. Kota Bharu has fallen - Swift very wisely decided to leave the landing forces unmolested by force Z - the absence of Netties in the skies leads us to believe this is exactly what they were waiting for. Troops and supplies head south to Singapore for immediate evac to Palembang. Those troops that are unrestricted and can already leave are boarding ships to head for Palembang and the air transport armada continues to bring in outlying infantry. Small TFs are also built to bring in more infantry but the enemy has a lot of the shipping lanes under careful watch with his subs already - there must be more and closer to their targets in RA.

The landing at PI has not increased or expanded - all local infantry and armour is being sent here to throw them back in the sea - i personally suspect a division strength and another unit - we'll see

The KB seems to have grown and split more - 2 CLs were lost off Singkawang to one element, there is still an element off Hong Kong and now one near Davao that is clearly there to catch escaping shipping - all evac units will now head east, rendevous and then come south away from the PI. There is also a TF sighted with CVLs near Rabaul too!

All in all a 'routine' turn, the surprises being the Vildebeests sinking at least 2 ships of the Kota Bharu landing force, and a successful IJN sub attack right off the US coast, 15 minutes after i had just guaranteed Swift it couldnt happen - damn the new RA subs!!

Turn 3 has been sent:-

Subs are en route from Pearl to patrol Midway, Wake, Johnston and the long legged ones are heading further north to see what mischief they can cause around Sakhalin and Sapporro.

Various TFs are rendevouzing in Kodiak to start building up Adak to be used as a springboard for taking one of the 'Jimas' near Sakhalin.

Heads of forces are convening to discuss a grand plan for the Pacific - there are many KBs around Borneo and the Pacific is ripe for the picking - what and where is to be decided.

Quiet across the map until the PI - fortunately for the enemy their overwhelming local numbers caused the base to turn Japanese without an attack, giving the troops an extra day to prep and move on, and move on they have - the march arrow indicates they are heading already to Manilla! The allies are already marching south east to meet their attack however, but set off a day earlier - with any luck and some ground bombing from the B17s we can slow their march, get to their hex before they leave and attack them whilst theyre still in the wrong combat mode.

TFs are heading south to aparri and Vigan, it would appear this is their next point of arrival.

TFs are leaving Manilla and heading east then south, this should be safe enough now that part of the main KB has headed west to support the Kuching ops.

About 1000 men a day are being flown in to Palembang from all around the DEI, and the shipping also is arriving in the right bases to take away the small units collected here. Forces are on the trains heading to Batavia from Soerbaja for the short hop to Oosthaven. Subs have arrived in Batavia to be loaded with mines, and they can accompany the mine TFs leaving the area this turn.

In other areas, transport TFs are making their slow progress through Malaccan straits and we hope to have them land in Palembang soon. The AVG is making its way into the area and the forces that started on transports to begin with are heading towards Sumatra.............

Commodore Swift just wanted to visit the Sultan of Brunei (Birthday of one of his many sons) and doing so he also would have the opportunity to meet his old friend Lord Carruthers (who may become First Sealord in the near future).

Because of his background in the intelligence community and from his visit in Nippon in early 41, he was aware of the possibility of an massive Japanese all out attack in the DEI.

He was in close contact with an Australian Captain who wants to build up something like a "sea watcher" organisation....he had the idea to give various people radios and charts, and they would report shipping and maybe aircraft.

Swift had told his communication officer MacAllan of this "opportunity" and told him to watch the frequencies very close.


In the early morning hours of Dec 7th MacAllan alerted Commodore Swift of massive reports from various sources. Commodore Swift ordered radio calls to all his intel assets and also to the Higher Commands in the Far East. Various assets - but none of the Higher Commands - reported back.



Now Commodore Swift ordered total radio sillence and blackout for his flottilia and asked MacAllan for radio surveillance and for a vector to the closest possible enemy contact. 20 minutes later the Flottilia was closing in on a possible hostile contact. It looks like a Japanese Cargo and Tanker fleet going to one of the many ports in the DEI or the former French Indochina Ports........but as far as Swift knows....te Dutch wont give them their oil and also the Commonwealth wont give them any oil......what the heck are they doing here running without any cargo.......


Now the radar crew reported huge masses of aircraft incoming....probably passing by.
As they came closer all crew on deck could see that those are Japanese combat aircraft.....and Swift saw that they carried a full load.

Suddenly MacAllen shouted - dozen of reports are incoming....possible Japanese landings all over the DEI and the Phillipine Islands..........

and so the war begins......

According to the houserules...........I was free to plot my SAGs and my carrier forces.
We awaited the usual PH strike and some surprises, but what they did really surprised us!
No PH strike........all subs around PH gone......but at least 4 carrier divisions in the DEI!

This will get ugly around there.....not much hope!
