GMT games have one game being made into a PC game and several for IoS and android. They are also in talks with someone about Combat Commander and two others. They also have a big list they want converted and are looking for developers.

Which game is being made into a PC game?

more than 1 actually :

Barbarossa : Army Group South
Labyrinth
Twilight Struggle

Other games are getting ported to the iPad or Android tablets

Not sue I'm very keen on the precived scale of The Lordz WW1 game. Hardly any hexes make up the entire West front.

Sure - and that's just like it needs to be - gridlock on the Western front, manoeuvering on the Eastern front and everything imaginable happening on the Southern & Turkish fronts.

Yes I agree. I made that comment when it was first announced.

Commander : The Great War

The engine was completely re-written from scratch so while it might look like this is just Commander : Europe at War with different units, nothing could be further from the truth - more info :

We tend to avoid announcing things until they are close to completion because of the complexities of making games and the number that get delayed or fall by the wayside. To be honest it is rare for one to arrive when expected! Even then one's we're expecting to finish soon can be delayed months or even years. We have severe backlash from unhappy customers on these and we want to avoid disappointing people.

The biggest issue is many of the developers working on wargames are only part time or volunteer as the money isn't there to fund large full time teams. Even if there is a full time team member they often are backed up and supported by volunteers or part timers.

Very true. Hence the delay with Modern Wars: Volume I.

There's a lot in the works, but we don't announce until they get close to release and many have been delayed. With that said, we are not just Matrix now, we are Matrix and Slitherine and the combined release schedule has seen some major releases this year. We have several releases still aiming for a release before the holidays, but we are going week by week and making sure they are ready before we set a release date.

Regards,

- Erik

I was kinda suspecting that getting a stable paying job is a good idea when wanting to develop games that one wants to exist instead of games that the masses want. I wonder if it's worth to take a specialisation in AI in such situation...

As you are now a joint company can I suggest 2 things

1 You have joint fora rather than having the learning split. I don't have the time/enthusiasm to look at WITE on both
2 You organise the games on the fora in a logical sequence. They seem random and I still can't find WiTE easily

Battle Command is being reworked, re do the UI and add an AI, which Micheal believes he can out do anything out there at the moment. I actually believe him. He is also doing stuff for the military.

The new game will hopefully be finished in a year and fingers crossed released to retail.

I had ago hotseat last night and though the UI is hard work at first the detail and depth is astounding. He really needs new players to help with development though. He is a shy man who has little convidence in his PR skills and promoting the game. I hope enough people can chip in and help.

Last time I took a look at his design he had all game-data stored in dozens and dozens of separate M$ Access tables so I would take anything he says about his programming abilities with a trainload of salt.

What is wrong in utilizing Acces as an auxiliary gateway for development before converting data records into *sql files?

Well the game runs well and for a one man job it's a hell of an achievement. I'm adising him on what needs to be done. He syays he has worked on it so long he is blind to it's problems, like the UI for instance and all those windows etc.

Sterckxe, it's a shame you have said that as at least the man is trying and the actual game once you get beyond the UI etc and lack of AI is ambitious highley detailed and ha sloads and loads of potential. I'm looking forward to your game as I expect it to be very good indeed. Could you give us a rundown?

I really feel that it would be a crying shame to let what he has done already die a death as ther eisnt really much like it anywhere else, it has the chance to be like the Panther games series but with a 3D map.

The latest build was released the other day. It is damn fiddly booting the game up as you have to boot upto to ap[lications and play hotseat, also without a tutorial about gameplay it's pretty much guesswork and with all that I'd still enjoyed it. Like I sadi the more people who get involved and help and give advice on what needs to be done would be great.

Even if you don't play it and just browse the wealth of options and orders etc etc makes you realsie the potential is there, it just really does need to have some major UI changes. I've already brought to his attention the major ones.

I actually like the 3D terrain and wish to god Dave could introduce the like into Command Ops - it would help immensely for me in immersion and tactical awareness. Nothing better than a good view of the terrain.

I have to be honest though in that I haven't given this game any sort of look past the screenies.

Note to Dave (Panther Games) - if you ever do go 3D with the terrain, I don't want sprites...just a personal preference [:D]

I've always wanted a version of Steel Panthers with 3D terrain, now that would be something.

Regarding screen shots, they're using counters along with 3D terrain. Dunno if I like this combination.
