There is a bug in there I just worked out. Complicated by the LLB/FB/DB addition.

Will be fixed in the 1108q8a out soon.

Sooo good to hear.

I tried to run q8a but kept getting an error message saying "unable to find PWdata".

Is this just me? Has anyone got q8a to run?

Never mind, I'm dumb. It's working.

It now costs 75PP to upgrade a 1 engine bomber to a 2 engine bomber.

That's still a big game changer.

Again not a good one.

Why? Surely the Jap player has to pay for the extra engines he uses. What is unfair about that? Adding a pp penalty for being able to actually influence your own economy seems like a daft idea. I would love to know the thinking behind it, but if this makes it into a main patch, there would be a lot less people willing to play the dark side...

No, I doubt it. Because I suspect that this will apply to the Allies as well. And, in 3/44 I have no spare PPs as the Allied player. I kind of like it. It tends to slow the madness down but does add some flexibility in.

Actually I'm not against the idea as a JFB, just trying to work out what is happening... and wonder why it is costing as much as it is in PP's. And extensibly ongoing PP's.

From what I've noted so far testing fighters.
1. Doesn't cost anything to upgrade along a factory path or the same type of plane. Attributes(CV etc) don't seem to have an effect.
2. Costs to change type even if they are defined by the editor (which I raise my eyebrow to) or back again.
3. Even if you change type and continue on that type it costs. (another eyebrow raised) Although if you don't keep the original type I think it's ok.
... going to check engines with LB next ...
[edit] That's goofy (regarding 3) - an LB group that doesn't have any upgrade path, costs to go from 1 engine to 2 (OK) but then costs to upgrade to another 2E LB... making point 3 a quandary

Well then another beer for me and another round of testing ...

Cheers
Well it's the morning so no beer to keep the testing going but here's what I'm seeing in Q8a:
1. Changing from type to type costs PP's when there are no defined a/c upgrades.
This varies according to type change.
1E LB to a 2E LB costs are smaller (a/c * 3) than going from a 1E LB to a 1E or 2E fB (a/c * 10).
2. It doesn't cost anymore upgrading to the same plane type from now on, retaining or not retaining doesn't matter.
3.Upgrades along the defined air group paths are no longer costing PP.s (goody!)
4.Going back down from a 2e to 1e costs PP's (if you keep the original, but not if you don't - this seems strange to me)
5.1e LB changes to fB types are missing once the first upgrade occurs (from what small I've tested) But going back to the original plane will then give you back that option.
6. Warning - You can click upgrade to a FB/LB type when it's not available, costing PP's which are then removed and you'll have to wait for the planes to become avail. But you can change to the same type which is available for no extra.

Much more testing to follow as this looks like I'll have to re-write the Tracker code for upgrades. But I'll wait for Michael to comment etc...

I'm going to retest all this cause it seems ad-hoc and not clear to me yet anyway,

Hmmm...my valiant Japanese PBEM opponent finally brought up the idea of actually considering using the Beta last week-to my complete shock. [X(] He still hasn't forgiven the artillery bug being fixed a couple of years ago. This is just the sort of bug that will cause him to say that we'll wait for the next official patch plus several months again.

Good thing he's at Disney this week. [:)]

It is not a cost to go from 1E to 2E bomber.

It is a cost to go from a Light Bomber to a Heavy Bomber or any other type of LB.

It should not be a simple case of jumping around 'types' of LBs.

A couple of changes.
1. No PP if the cost to change the LB if the cost of the current LB is greater than or equal to the cost of the new LB. Once changed to Heavy, you can change to a Medium/Light/Attack LB freely.
2. Warning message if you want to change to a a/c still under R&D.
3. The R&D a/c should be grey on the list.

It might not have been noticed, but changing from a 'pass use by date' a/c will cost less. Also changing to an obsolete a/c will also cost less.

Thanks Michael - glad some of my feedback was used (again).

I'll keep trying to work it all out and see if there is anything more I can contribute.

Have a good one,

So far this is looking great! Thanks to you and Andy for this nice feature improvement.

Of course, being able to accurately predict your opponent's reactions is helpful to any battle plan. [;)]

I wonder if I can convince Michaelm & AndyMac to allow F/FB/NF/FF to swap between the different groups (with the cost of PP of course)? It would be cool to add to my night fighters if my opponent starts hammering me with a heavy night bombing attack. And there might be a time when I would want to add additional float fighters on some of those dot-islands...

Watcha think?

TTFN,

Mike
